The Town of Apex is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Inspector to lead policy-setting efforts, oversee complex work, and ensure top‑tier quality control of Contractor and Developer‑installed utilities before they become Town‑maintained assets
HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT
An employee in this position interprets and enforces construction codes through inspections of infrastructure for residential and commercial developments. Inspects water and sewer lines, streets, driveways, sidewalks, curb and gutter, storm drainage, and stormwater control measures devices and related items. Reviews construction plans, meets with contractors to review specifications and requirements, inspects construction in progress and upon completion for adherence to approved plans and specifications. This position also oversees chlorination of new water lines, of concrete, and GPS locating and mapping. This position reports to the Infrastructure Inspections Manager. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Inspects construction work in progress and upon completion for quality of work and adherence to approved plans and specifications; checks for proper grade and materials; takes samples of soils and materials and has compaction, density and other test performed. Reviews plans and construction drawings for proper location of valves, hydrants, laterals, manholes, water and sewer lines, stormwater control measures, riser structures, spillway pipes through dams and other appurtenances; reviews plans for adherence to adopted engineering specifications such as depth, minimum separation of utilities, locations, materials, and construction methods. Oversees pressure testing of sewers and vacuum testing of sewer manholes. Oversees chlorination of lines by contractors; coordinates collection of water samples; oversees pressure testing of water lines; locates connection point into system for contractors. Meets with contractors, engineers, owners, project managers and architects and reviews and explains construction requirements; answers questions; attends and participates in pre-construction meetings to explain Town standards and common practices. Completes field inspections of Town-owned projects to enforce Local and State laws, ordinances and standards; notifies other departments of construction issues; keeps detailed records of projects. Maintains log and records work activities and field findings; insures that as-builts are submitted upon completion of project; indicates recommendation for acceptance of new lines and systems; completes chlorination reports, using the BlueBeam program. Answers public inquiries and complaints concerning streets, driveways, stormwater, grading and water and sewer projects. Conducts inspection and QA/QC, of third party (CCTV) closed circuit video of sewer mainline, sewer service lateral and storm drain pipes.
WHAT SETS YOU UP FOR SUCCCESS
Associate's Degree and a minimum of one (1) year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
WHAT SETS YOU APART
Special preference given to candidates that have taken classes and passed exams in all of the following inspection areas: concrete, asphalt, water, and sewer. Hiring Managers will consider applicants for Infrastructure Inspector II (Senior level) if the incumbent meets the criteria for that level.
