Why does the job exist? This Position manages statewide LP Gas permitting and inspection program safeguarding life and property safety in the state. This includes responsibility for enactment of rules and codes and rendering interpretations of rules, codes, policies and procedures. This position conducts ongoing analysis of inspection areas, ensures timely and accurate LP Gas plan review activities, as well as timely, competent and accurate inspections, reports and citations when appropriate. This position is also responsible for tracking and reporting all trade bureau activity including compiling daily reports, providing accurate reports to the director when requested, responsibility for all state equipment used by the trade bureau including vehicles, computers and phones. This position fulfills all administrative responsibilities for supervision of staff, including inspectors, provides support to local jurisdictions as the subject matter expert, render code interpretations and conducts both LP inspections and complaint inspections throughout the state when needed. This position is responsible for all special events conducted in the state that in any way utilized LP Gas. How does it get done? This position will use provided technology to provide efficient inspection services, reports and maintain the highest degree of professionalism and customer service. It will require using a state issued vehicle to conduct site inspections. This task is accomplished through comprehensive knowledge of construction, statutes, rules and codes to ensure inspections of all containers, transporters, dispensers and storage of liquefied petroleum in our state are conducted safely for citizens to utilize propane in their homes and businesses. This is accomplished by not only knowing the law but by reviewing plans and utilizing the rules and codes to ensure compliance and safety. This position requires an effective communicator for citizens, contractors and inspectors to respond timely and effectively to all issues that arise. Must be able to regularly/daily operate a provided state vehicle for purposes of essential travel to/from inspection sites and other locations as necessary to carry out the duties of the position. Minimum Qualification Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid defensive driver's certification and driver's license. Must be able to pass a preemployment background check. Working Conditions Incumbent will move about construction job sites in all typed o weather and conditions. Climbing ladders, navigating ditches and trenches and avoiding hazards typically related to construction sites. The incumbent must lift up to 50 pounds. Work is performed using a personal computer for extended periods. This position may work some weekends, holidays and occasionally overnight travel may be required.
