Job Description
H2M architects + engineers, a multidisciplinary architectural, engineering, and environmental consulting firm, seeks a full or part-time Engineer or Architect for a Senior Forensic Consultant in our Windsor, CT office. For this advanced role, we are seeking a candidate who is comfortable acting as a lead engineer in the department with a growing number of responsibilities as we continue our expansion. In addition to technical expertise on assignments, the ideal applicant will excel in customer service and maintaining our important business relationships throughout the insurance industry. Key Responsibilities Conduct residential and commercial forensic investigations to analyze and determine the cause, origin, and extent of structural failures, water intrusions, roof damage, construction defects and building system failures for insurance companies, attorneys, private homeowners and property owners. Investigate and assess damages due to catastrophes such as storm damage, hurricanes, and floods. Research technical publications and literature in support of evaluations, and apply engineering principles and practices in accordance with codes and industry standards. Provide detailed forensic engineering reports outlining cause and origin of damage to clients. Manage multiple projects and assume responsibility for project execution within required timeframes. Communicate with staff and clients to provide timelines and project updates on a consistent basis. Experience with premises and walking surface investigations, product defect cases a plus. Local travel and inspections of homes, roofs and crawlspaces will be required. Education & Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture or closely related discipline required, Master's Degree is preferred. Minimum 8+ years engineering or architectural experience and at least one (1) year of forensic engineering experience required. Experience working with insurance companies and law firms preferred. Deposition and expert testimony experience preferred. Requires strong analytical and field inspection skills. Must be highly motivated, dependable and conscientious. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with clients and subordinates. The ability to write technical reports and working knowledge of building structures. Project management and supervisory experience highly desired. Experience with premises and walking surface investigations, product defect cases a plus. EIT required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) or Registered Architect [R.A] License preferred. Additional Requirements As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy. Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available. Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed. The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000 annually. Pushing boundaries, redefining design.
