Job Description
Perform quality control testing for VDOT Roadway and Bridge construction, including field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing of contractor work to ensure contract compliance for routine, non-complex activities. This role works under the direction of a Construction Quality Control Inspector or Manager.
Pay:
$20.00- $30.00 per hourDOE Responsibilities:
Perform materials testing, such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate densityReview placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards; make cylinders for delivery to labsVerify construction of roadway and highway materials and placement complies with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documentsMonitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork (excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, pile driving) under the supervision of a more experienced inspector, with appropriate training and oversightAdvise inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foremen of non-conforming field testsTake field measurements of materials placed/tested and record daily production and test resultsComplete daily reports with attached VDOT materials testing formsReceive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submit to contractorTake assignments and direction fromQuality Control Lead Management and Senior Inspectors Performance Expectations:
Accurately record and report daily forms per project requirementsCommunicate effectively with client, contractor, staff, and supervisorProactively resolve problems at the lowest levelAdhere to project scope, schedule, and budgetReview all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submittingSubmit accurate time sheets, mileage, and expense reports on time each weekReview jobsite safety daily and take immediate action to document and resolve issuesUnderstand and follow OSHA Safety Standards and client corporate policiesMaintain all required certifications and participate in training courses as requiredUnderstand and apply all applicable industry standards for the projectRequired:
High school diploma or equivalentACI Certification0-2 years of experienceMust pass pre-employment drug screening; background and motor vehicle checks may be required based on positionWillingness to work near active highways, roadways, water/land bridges, marine barges/watercraft, and underground tunnel boring machines; nighttime shifts expected on a rotational basisPreferred:
