Direct Hire The Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating crane to load, unload, move, position, and stage heavy, oversized, and specialized materials within outdoor yard environment. This position works closely with riggers, spotters, and operations leadership to execute lifts safely and accurately while following established lift plans, customer requirements, and company safety procedures. The ideal candidate has strong crane operating skills, understands proper rigging and load-handling practices, and takes pride in safe, precise execution in a fast-paced logistics environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Safely operate overhead, gantry, mobile, or other assigned cranes to move and position heavy and oversized materials. Perform loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, rail cars, and other transportation equipment as required. Safely position and stage materials throughout warehouse, yard, and project locations. Work closely with riggers and crane spotters to safely execute lifts and material movements. Review and follow approved lift plans, load charts, rigging requirements, and customer-specific procedures. Verify load weight, dimensions, center of gravity, rigging configuration, and other factors prior to lifting. Conduct pre-use inspections of cranes, controls, hooks, wire rope, chains, slings, and other lifting equipment. Immediately report equipment defects, unsafe conditions, damaged rigging, or other safety concerns. Maintain awareness of personnel, equipment, structures, power lines, vehicles, and other hazards within the work area. Follow established hand signals, radio communications, and other crane communication procedures. Operate equipment within manufacturer specifications and established capacity limits. Assist with proper placement, blocking, dunnage, and securing of materials. Maintain accurate records related to equipment inspections, lifts, and operational activities. Assist with yard organization and material movement when crane operations are not required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Follow all OSHA, company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements. Participate in safety meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives. Support other warehouse and material-handling activities as directed by operations leadership. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous crane operating experience required. Experience operating gantry, overhead, mobile, or similar cranes preferred. NCCCO certification or other recognized crane operator certification required Knowledge of proper rigging and load-handling practices. Ability to read and understand load charts, lift plans, and equipment documentation. Ability to accurately estimate or verify load weights and understand load capacities. Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and OSHA requirements. Ability to communicate effectively with riggers, spotters, supervisors, drivers, and other warehouse personnel. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain situational awareness while operating equipment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and varying shifts as operational needs require. Ability to work in indoor and outdoor warehouse/yard environments and in varying weather conditions. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, and reach for extended periods. Ability to enter and exit crane cabs and access equipment safely. Ability to work at heights when required by the equipment or operating environment. Ability to work around heavy equipment, large loads, and active warehouse/yard operations. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety footwear, high-visibility apparel, and other site-specific PPE. Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Safety & Performance Expectations Safety is a fundamental responsibility of the Crane Operator. Operators are expected to stop work when an unsafe condition exists, communicate hazards immediately, and never compromise safety or equipment capacity to meet production requirements.
