$30.00-$34.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications Job Summary Traverse City Crane is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Crane Operator to join our team. We operate a variety of mobile cranes performing residential, commercial, construction, mechanical, truss, steel, equipment, and specialty lifting throughout Northern Michigan. We are looking for someone who is comfortable operating heavy equipment, understands the responsibility involved in crane operation, and can safely and professionally handle jobs in the field. Experienced crane operators are preferred, but we are also willing to consider an experienced heavy-equipment operator with the right mechanical ability, judgment, and willingness to learn. Responsibilities Safely operate mobile hydraulic cranes on a variety of job sites Perform proper crane setup, including outriggers, cribbing, leveling, and positioning Read and understand crane load charts Determine safe operating radius, boom configuration, and lifting capacity Inspect crane, rigging, wire rope, hooks, and safety systems before operation Work with riggers, contractors, homeowners, and other trades during lifts Perform residential and commercial picks including trusses, steel, HVAC equipment, machinery, building materials, and other loads Safely travel cranes and equipment to and from job sites Complete daily inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns Maintain clean and professional equipment Assist with basic maintenance and troubleshooting when necessary Follow OSHA requirements and company safety procedures Communicate professionally with customers and job-site personnel Qualifications Previous crane, construction, trucking, or heavy-equipment experience preferred Strong understanding of equipment operation and job-site safety Ability to work independently and make safe decisions in changing job-site conditions Ability to read measurements and understand basic lift calculations Good communication skills Dependable transportation and strong attendance Valid driver's license required CDL preferred NCCCO crane certification preferred Rigging and signaling experience preferred Mechanical knowledge is a plus Applicants without crane certification may still be considered if they have significant heavy-equipment experience and demonstrate the ability to safely learn crane operations.
Compensation Starting wage:
$30.00-$34.00 per hour Starting pay will depend on crane experience, certifications, CDL status, mechanical ability, and the applicant's ability to independently perform crane jobs. Experienced operators capable of independently handling crane setup, load charts, rigging, customer interaction, and difficult lifts will have opportunities for increased compensation. Crane operation is not a position where corners can be cut. The right candidate will be dependable, mechanically inclined, safety-conscious, professional with customers, and comfortable taking responsibility for equipment and lifts in the field.
Schedule:
Full-time, Monday through Friday, with occasional early mornings, overtime, or weekend work depending on customer needs.
