Job Description:
We are seeking a part-time Crane Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will operate ship's cargo cranes to lift, move, position, and reposition heavy equipment and loads (gypsum, salt, or bulk cargo). Safety, precision, and efficiency are paramount in this role. This is not a guaranteed 40-hour-per-week position. Hours fluctuate based on vessel schedules; some weeks may have limited or no shifts, while busy periods may exceed 60 hours. Work is driven by vessel schedules. During periods with back-to-back ship arrivals, employees can easily work 60+ hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled during the day or overnight and frequently include weekends, depending on vessel operations.
Responsibilities:
Safely operate cranes according to established procedures and safety guidelines. Inspect cranes before each use to ensure proper functionality. Communicate with ground crew and other personnel to ensure safe and efficient operation. Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries. Participate in safety training programs and adhere to safety regulations at all times. Report any safety hazards or concerns to supervisors immediately.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid commercial crane operator certification, preferably but willing to train Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness. Physical strength and stamina to perform the duties of the job. Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Basic crane understanding. Ideally experienced operating a variety of crane types, including tower cranes, mobile cranes, and overhead cranes. Experience working in commercial construction or industrial settings. Additional certifications in rigging, signaling, or other related areas. OSHA 10 certification,
