Job Description

Water Well Driller / Service Technician Job Summary The Water Well Driller / Service Technician is responsible for both drilling new water wells and servicing existing water systems. This hybrid role includes operating drilling equipment, installing well systems, and troubleshooting and repairing pumps, motors, and controls. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and technical skills and can work independently in field conditions while maintaining safety and quality standards. Key Responsibilities Drilling Operations Operate drilling rigs and equipment to construct water wells Drill wells based on site specifications and geological conditions Install well casings, screens, and grouting materials Monitor drilling progress and adjust techniques as needed Maintain drilling logs and site documentation Service & Repair Diagnose and repair water well systems, including pumps and pressure tanks Install, replace, and service submersible and jet pumps Troubleshoot electrical components such as control boxes, wiring, and switches Pull and reinstall pumps and piping using hoists or service rigs Perform routine maintenance and system inspections General Duties Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment Communicate with customers about issues, solutions, and system performance Work with team members to complete projects efficiently Keep accurate service records and reports Experience Requirements 3-7+ years of experience in water well drilling, pump service, or related field Experience operating drilling rigs and service equipment Strong background in pump systems, plumbing, and basic electrical work Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues Familiarity with different soil and rock formations preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (technical training preferred) Valid driver's license (CDL required) Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals Knowledge of drilling methods, water systems, and safety practices Skills & Competencies Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently Problem-solving skills in field environments Good communication and customer service abilities Self-motivated with ability to work independently or on a team Strong attention to safety and detail Working Conditions Outdoor work in varying weather and terrain Physically demanding tasks (lifting, pulling, equipment operation) Travel to rural and remote job sites Possible on-call or emergency service work Salary Range Typically ranges from $25.00 - $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications Preferred Certifications Water Well Driller License Pump Installer License Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
OSHA Safety Certification Pay:
$26.00 - $35.00 per hour
