Job Description

Precision Fiber Solutions, LLC, is seeking an experienced Directional Drill Locator to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for locating underground paths using a Vermeer 20x22 drill and Falcon F5 locator , ensuring the safe and accurate installation of fiber optic lines and other utilities. The Locator will work closely with the drill operator and crew to achieve project objectives efficiently while maintaining compliance with safety standards and company procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive directional drilling equipment to job site utilizing Class A CDL. Operate the locator to provide accurate directional drill tracking and depth readings. Assist in planning bore paths and ensuring proper clearance of existing underground utilities. Communicate clearly with the drill operator to guide bore head positioning and adjustments. Perform pre-bore site inspections and post-bore reviews to ensure compliance with project specifications. Identify and troubleshoot drilling path obstacles, ground conditions, and potential hazards. Maintain detailed records of bore path, depths, and utility crossings. Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including wearing appropriate PPE and following job site protocols. Assist in potholing and utility verification using industry-standard techniques. Perform daily maintenance checks on locating equipment and report any issues. Collaborate with crew members to support drilling operations and overall project success.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of experience operating a locator and working with Vermeer or similar directional drills. Understanding of underground utility construction, including reading blueprints and utility maps. Knowledge of utility locating techniques and industry best practices. Strong communication skills to effectively coordinate with drill operators and supervisors. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks. Valid Class A CDL license is required. OSHA 10 or 30 certification is preferred. Must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly. Standing, walking, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. Working in confined spaces and various outdoor environments.
