Position Summary The HDD Operator / Locator operates horizontal directional drilling equipment and locating systems to install underground utilities safely and accurately. Key Responsibilities Operate HDD equipment for underground utility installation. Locate and track the drill head throughout the bore. Monitor depth, pitch, direction, and bore alignment. Read utility prints, bore plans, and utility markings. Perform potholing, reaming, pullback, and conduit installation. Adjust drilling techniques based on soil conditions, obstacles, and existing utilities. Operate supporting equipment such as excavators, skid steers, loaders, and vac equipment as needed. Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance. Follow OSHA, DOT, company, and damage-prevention requirements. Complete required equipment logs and job documentation. Required Qualifications Valid Class A CDL with an acceptable driving record. Previous horizontal directional drilling experience. Experience operating HDD equipment and/or locating drill heads. Ability to read utility prints, bore plans, and utility markings. Understanding of HDD fundamentals including depth, pitch, steering, reaming, and pullback. Ability to pass required background screening and drug testing. Preferred Qualifications Experience performing both drilling and locating. Experience with Vermeer and/or Ditch Witch equipment. Experience with DigiTrak, Subsite, or similar locating systems. Underground utility construction experience. OSHA 10 certification.
