A wall in raking afternoon light will show every scratch left under the finish. A door casing will be run over by hand. Nothing is forgiven by good lighting, and nothing should need to be. Our work is expected to be perfect. Not close, not commercially acceptable, not fine from six feet. Perfect. That standard is not achieved with better paint. It is achieved in the hours before the finish goes on, and that is where this position genuinely lives. If your idea of preparation is a quick scuff, a bead of caulk and two coats, we would ask that you not apply. It will be evident on the first day, to us and to you. Our reputation rests on two things: the quality of the finish we leave behind, and the way we conduct ourselves inside a client's home while we are producing it. We are selective about the work we take and equally selective about who does it. The craft A very large part of this position is preparation. That is deliberate, and it is not negotiable. Preparation — Sanding by hand through progressive grits to a surface that is genuinely flat, not merely scuffed — Filling, shaping and feathering with Bondo, wood filler, epoxy and patching compounds until the repair cannot be found — Skim coating and correcting drywall, plaster and stucco defects — Repairing and rebuilding damaged trim, casing, doors and millwork before a finish is considered — Caulking to a tight, consistent, unbroken line — Spot priming, full priming, and knowing which primer the substrate actually requires Finish — Interior and exterior finish work held to a furniture-grade standard — Cabinetry, built-ins, doors, trim, crown, casing and fine millwork — Brush and roll at a high level of proficiency in both — Cutting a crisp line without tape where the work calls for it — Stain, clear coat and specialty finishes — experience required, not preferred Conduct in a client's home Much of this work is performed while the family is in residence. How you carry yourself is part of the product. — Full masking and containment of floors, furniture, hardware and landscaping — Leaving every space cleaner at the end of the day than you found it — Communicating with clients, designers, architects and general contractors as a professional — Treating finishes, fixtures and personal property as though they were your own — Discretion. What you see and hear in a client's home stays there. The standard Work is inspected before it is called complete. This is what passes. — No sags, runs, holidays, lap marks or stipple where it does not belong — No visible filler, no telegraphing, no sanding scratches carried through the finish — A straight, sharp line at every transition — Consistent sheen and full coverage across the entire surface, not only at eye level — Work that holds up in direct natural light, not merely under a work lamp If something does not meet that standard, it is corrected. That is the arrangement, and the best craftsmen we have worked with have always preferred it that way. What we require We are not hiring an apprentice, and we do not train into this role. These are firm. — A minimum of three years of professional finish painting, with at least one in high-end residential or comparable fine finish work — Demonstrated mastery of Bondo and filler work — shaped, feathered and sanded to an invisible repair — Genuine proficiency with stain, clear coat and specialty finishes — The ability to read a scope of work and follow a specified finish schedule — Your own hand tools, and the judgment to know which one the moment calls for — A valid Florida driver's license and an acceptable driving record — Legal authorization to work in the United States — The ability to pass a background check, motor vehicle check and drug screen — The physical capability to lift 50 pounds, work from ladders and scaffold, and stand and kneel for extended periods — Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
