Travel Required Summary of Position The Drywall Mechanic is responsible for measuring, cutting, and installing drywall while maintaining a clean work area. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintains a clean work area and protects structures or surfaces near work areas to avoid damage. Reading design plans and/or Blueprints in order to provide minimal wallboard to avoid unnecessary waste of materials Measuring and marking cutting lines on framing, drywall, and trim using tape measure, straightedge, or square, and marking devices Identifying the exact locations of windows, electrical outlets, and plumbing, and then cutting the drywall or ceiling tile to fit the precise size needed Cutting drywall to the right size, using utility knives and power saws Fastening drywall panels to interior wall studs, using nails or screws Filling joints, holes, and cracks with compound, using a trowel and broad knife Trimming and smoothing rough edges so boards join evenly without visual defect Mixing compound to desired consistency Cleaning and preparing surfaces for applications of materials, such as by drywall taping. At times may work with metal studs. Assembles and installs metal framing and decorative trim for windows, doorways, and vents as needed. Installs horizontal and vertical metal or studs for attachment of wallboard on interior walls, using hand tools as needed. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements High school diploma GED (preferred) 3+ years of drywall experience (required) Preferred Skills and Abilities Basic hand and power tool skills Ability to read and use measuring tools such as tape measure Ability to work and communicate with others Analyze information and evaluate problems Ability to safely work at heights Ability to learn and follow our extensive company safety policy Work safely with all members of the crew Willingness to travel, with frequent overnight stays.
