We are seeking an experienced Generator Installer II to serve as a Lead Installer on residential whole-home standby generator projects. If you are a skilled technician who takes ownership of job-site execution, mentors junior crew members, and delivers flawless Generac installations, we want you on our team. Position Overview As a Generator Installer II (Lead Installer) , you will be directly responsible for leading site installations of Generac air-cooled and liquid-cooled whole-home standby generator systems from arrival to final startup. Working alongside a licensed electrical contractor, you will direct junior installers, oversee site preparation, manage fuel lines and electrical integration, and ensure strict compliance with local codes and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards. This position requires advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting capabilities, strong crew leadership, and high-level customer engagement to deliver top-tier power reliability "The Dynamic Way."
Key Responsibilities Site Leadership & Crew Direction:
Lead day-to-day installation operations on site, managing Generator Installer I technicians and managing time, site safety, and craftsmanship to meet company schedules.
Electrical Integration & ATS Installation:
Execute and oversee transfer switch installations (Automatic Transfer Switches / Generac Smart Switches), sub-panel connections, main panel tie-ins, service entry wiring, and conduit/wire sizing per NEC and Generac specifications.
Fuel & Gas Systems Execution:
Perform and verify gas line sizing (CSST, black iron, or copper), pressure testing, propane/natural gas regulator settings, and connection to fuel supplies in accordance with
NFPA 54 / IFGC
standards.
System Commissioning & Load Testing:
Perform initial generator startup, voltage/frequency adjustments, load bank testing, simulated utility power outage tests, and diagnostic troubleshooting using Generac diagnostics tools and digital multimeters.
Customer Education & Hand-Off:
Conduct final walk-throughs with homeowners to demonstrate generator operation, explain regular maintenance procedures, guide them through Mobile Link Wi-Fi setup, and address technical questions professionally.
Code Compliance & Quality Control:
Ensure every job meets or exceeds local municipal building codes, NEC regulations, and manufacturer tolerances. Obtain sign-offs and handle inspector site walk-throughs as needed.
Cross-Functional Support:
Utilize HVAC and electrical capabilities to occasionally assist with residential HVAC or specialized backup power projects when required. Uphold "The Dynamic Way": Model precision, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement, driving higher standards across the installation team.
Qualifications & Technical Skills Experience & Certifications:
Experience:
Minimum 2-4 years of hands-on experience in residential standby generator installation, with proven lead/field supervisor experience.
Generac Certification:
Active Generac Factory Air-Cooled Certification (or willingness to complete within 60 days of hire) is strongly preferred. Liquid-Cooled certification is a plus.
Licensing:
Active Electrical Apprentice card or Residential Wireman license preferred.
HVAC/EPA
certifications are a strong plus.
Driver's License:
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
Electrical & Mechanical Competencies:
Advanced Electrical:
Deep understanding of NEC standards (Articles 700, 701, 702), service entrance equipment, load calculation, wire ampacity selection, 120/240V split-phase systems, and transfer switch control wiring.
Advanced Mechanical/Gas:
Proficiency in black iron pipe threading, CSST sizing/bonding, gas regulator selection (low vs. elevated pressure), and fuel supply calculations (CFH / BTU load matching).
Diagnostic & Diagnostic Tool Proficiency:
Ability to read electrical schematics/wiring diagrams, perform continuity tests, isolate control board faults, and troubleshoot fuel pressure delivery issues.
Physical & General Requirements:
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 75 lbs routinely and work in varied weather conditions. Excellent customer-facing communication and clear record-keeping skills for job updates and compliance documentation.
