Part Time Exempt Non-Exempt Position Summary:

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing all campus electrical systems, equipment, and related apparatuses. Because we operate a 24/7 boarding environment, this role ensures the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of student housing and academic spaces.

Essential Job Functions:

System Maintenance & Repairs:

Inspect, troubleshoot, alter, and repair electrical wiring, high/low tension power, light feeders, control equipment, transformers, switches, lights and outlets across all campus facilities.

Dormitory & Kitchen Care:

Maintain and repair electrical elements in residential dormitories, faculty housing, and commercial kitchen/dining equipment (refrigerators, stoves, and laundry machinery)

Safety & Code Compliance:

Ensure all work adheres strictly to federal, state, and local National Electrical Codes (NEC) and school safety guidelines. Identify and correct potential fire hazards or unsafe conditions.

Specialized Infrastructure:

Service campus-wide life safety systems, including fire and intrusion alarms, security systems, exterior campus/parking light fixtures, and emergency generators.

Event Support:

Assist with temporary power distribution and specialized lighting/audio-visual setups for theatrical performances, athletic games, commencement, and other campus community events.

Preventative Maintenance:

Execute regular preventative maintenance schedules on electric motors, panels, and HVAC electrical sub-systems to minimize unexpected service disruptions.

Additional Job Functions:

• Apply for and file any electrical permits requested by Building Services Office
• Maintain inventory of materials and equipment needed for non-emergency and emergency repairs
• Assist maintenance workers for special event set ups
• Assist maintenance workers with snow removal
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Building Services or the

Business Manager Qualifications:

Licensure:

Must possess and maintain a valid state Journeyman Electrician License or higher.

Experience:

Minimum of 3 to 5 years of verifiable experience as a commercial or residential service electrician. Experience working in an educational institution, university campus, or hospitality setting is highly preferred.

Technical Skills:

Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams.

Driver's License:

A valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required to operate school-owned utility vehicles and golf carts across campus property.

Working Conditions/Hazards:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
• Comfortable bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding, or utilizing motorized lift equipment at various heights.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions when addressing exterior campus issues.

On-Call Availability:

Willingness to participate in a rotating on-call schedule to respond to after-hours electrical emergencies affecting student housing or campus security.
