•We are looking to hire 1-2 new team members.
Company:
Schwab Construction Group LLC Location:
Our office is in Wytheville Virginia. Our coverage territory is Southwest Virginia wherever the project site is located. The position will be remote and mobile - you will not "report to an office". Our typical coverage territory will be roughly a 1.5hr travel distance from Christiansburg VA.
Industry:
We are a Class A Licensed General Contractor with Residential Building and Commercial Technical Building specialty designations. We complete residential and commercial building, restoration, and renovation projects, with our specialty being insurance damage restoration and complex construction projects. Our typical projects are expected to range in size from $350 to more than $500,000. We handle a variety of project types and sizes and meet our clients with our expertise where they need us! About Us We are a family-owned startup construction company. Our founders, Jay & Elise Schwab, are building a company based on taking care of people - our team members, our clients, our sub-contractors, and our vendors. Our mission is to serve our southwest Virginia communities with meticulous construction work, fearless problem-solving, and genuine care for the people we build with. Our vision is to become the most trusted name in the industry and the first contact for complex and challenging construction projects in southwest Virginia. If you are ready to take on our mission, excited to work with a startup company with excellent opportunity for advancement by getting on board early, then we would love to hear what you can bring to the table at Schwab Construction Group! About the Role We are looking for a great person with strong values of genuine care for others and positivity. We need a hard worker that is grateful for the opportunity to work and shows this with daily hard work alongside our founders and team members as we grow the business. The candidate may have a varying level of hands-on construction experience. If the candidate is willing to work hard and learn, construction experience is not necessary. Given the startup nature of the company, the role will be flexible, and the candidate will complete various tasks. The main role of the candidate will be performing hands on trade work in whatever trade the project, or phase of the project, may call for. The main trades expected to be performed include but are not limited to demolition, carpentry, drywall, painting, flooring, and more. The candidate will report directly to our Construction Manager with our Lead Tradesman as an additional supervisor. The candidate is expected to work alongside and learn from our Lead Tradesman & Construction Manager, leading the way with hands on craftsmanship for our team. With great work in the Helper Tradesperson or Tradesperson role and a willingness and ability to learn, lead and excel, and given the startup nature of the company, the candidate could become eligible for promotion with the companies' strong desire to promote from within.
Key Responsibilities Hands-on Trade Work:
Perform skilled trade work. This could be completing an entire small project, completing a trade or multiple on a large project, or acting as the "glue" between two sub-crews to create seamless work by Schwab Construction Group. The candidate will be expected to actively learn and grow their trade skills. The candidate may be asked to help supervise our subcontractor crews and/or help obtain materials or equipment from time to time. The candidate is expected to represent SCG professionally in these encounters, as well as in interactions with our clients.
Qualifications Trade Experience:
Trade experience is a plus and could warrant the higher end of the pay scale and the role of Tradesperson. Experience is, however, not required and would call for the Helper Tradesperson role.
Attitude & Attributes:
Positive attitude. Team first attitude with the willingness to share information, learn, and grow without ego. Willingness and desire to work hard in a consistent manner. Willingness to learn. Honest and trustworthy.
Certifications:
Any professional or trade designations/certifications, including OSHA training completion card would be a plus.
Reliability:
Strong work ethic and proven track record.
Driver's License:
A valid driver's license is required.
Drug & Criminal:
We will be completing a drug test, background check, and driving record check. We are forgiving and understanding, so please apply and be forthcoming even if you are concerned. That said, we must protect our business, family, and those we do business with. We must have a drug free and safe workplace.
Compensation & Benefits Hourly Pay Rate:
$18-$22/HR pending qualifications, experience, and attributes.
Overtime Pay:
Due to the manual labor expected to be performed by the candidate, overtime pay will be available with pre-approval.
Discretionary Bonus:
Discretionary bonuses are possible with exceptional performance.
Paid Time Off:
See section below!
Tools & Equipment:
Tools must be provided by the candidate. That said, a generous tool replacement program will be considered for implementation after the first year of Schwab Construction Group operations. Tools must be maintained and safe for use. Company shirts will be provided following a successful 90-day training period. OSHA required safety equipment will be provided by SCG.
Continuing Education:
Team members may be eligible to receive trade certifications, training, or professional designations which benefit the company. With prior approval, employees could be reimbursed for this continuing education and may become eligible for promotion as a result. This will help improve our team but will also improve the resume of our employees.
Benefits Notes:
This position does not currently offer health insurance or retirement savings plans. We do plan to implement this in the future. The position may become eligible for a company vehicle and gas card in the future, pending performance and trust. The candidate will be expected to drive a personal vehicle to and from the project site. Mileage reimbursement may be considered for travel between projects, and/or on projects with long travel. This would be discussed and agreed/approved in advance. Paid Time Off & Well Being We really mean it when we say that genuine care for the people we build with is our mission. We could not build a company without the partnership of our team members. We hope that our PTO package provides a glimpse into the relationships that we strive to build with our team.
Federal Holidays:
Seven paid holidays (New Year's, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas). 5
Days Paid Vacation:
Earned and available for use after your initial 90-day introductory period. 3 "Refresh" Days (Mental Health): These are "no questions asked" days for when you simply need a break. Last-minute notice is acceptable—we trust your judgment. Please take care of yourself and your family.
Future Benefits:
PTO will likely grow with the team member with annual contract discussions. Additionally, SCG will consider implementing a "roll over & cash out" benefit after we have been in business for 1 year. For now, no PTO cash out or roll over is available. At Schwab Construction Group our mission is to serve our southwest Virginia communities with meticulous construction work, fearless problem-solving, and genuine care for the people we build with.
