Construction is a growing commercial general contractor specializing in multi-site retail, restaurant and QSR, coffee, wellness, fitness, entertainment, and ground-up commercial construction throughout California and Arizona. We are looking for a Junior Estimator who can independently read plans, determine scope, solicit and level subcontractor bids, identify scope gaps, and build complete, competitive estimates for assigned projects typically ranging from $300,000 to $900,000.   • Read the Plans
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, and bid documents to understand the project.
  • Build the Scope
  • Identify required trades, create scopes of work, and recognize potential scope gaps.
  • Get It Out to Bid
  • Solicit subcontractors through STMCO's two bid platforms and direct outreach.
  • Build Bid Coverage
  • Call and follow up with subcontractors, including local subs in new out-of-state markets.
  • Level the Bids
  • Compare proposals, exclusions, and scope so pricing is complete and apples-to-apples.
  • Own the Estimate
  • Compile pricing and bid information into a complete, organized estimate from start to finish for ownership review. Key Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
  • Receive, review, and organize plans, specifications, addenda, and all bid documents.
  • Read construction plans and determine project scope, required trades, and subcontractor bid packages.
  • Solicit bids through two bid platforms and actively follow up by phone and email to maintain strong bid coverage.
  • Research and contact local subcontractors when STMCO bids in new or out-of-state markets.
  • Review subcontractor proposals, complete bid leveling, and identify exclusions, overlaps, and scope gaps.
  • Compile subcontractor pricing, takeoffs, allowances, and bid information into an organized estimate.
  • Build complete estimates from start to finish for assigned projects typically ranging from $300,000 to $900,000 and review final pricing with ownership.
  • Maintain accurate estimating folders, bidder lists, and bid documentation in Excel and company systems.
Collaboration & Ownership Review Junior Estimators are expected to independently estimate assigned projects from start to finish. Ownership review and team collaboration are part of our estimating process, with additional collaboration on ground-up projects and projects involving greater complexity, including structural scope and significant trade coordination.
  • Final estimate and competitive pricing review with company ownership
  • Collaboration on ground-up, structural, and more complex project scopes
  • Established estimating systems, bid platforms, and historical project information
  • Coordination with STMCO project management and operations teams as needed What Success Looks Like
  • You can independently open a plan set, determine scope, identify required trades, and move the project through the bid process.
  • You actively follow up to maintain a minimum of three qualified, competitive bids per scope/trade whenever possible.
  • You can level bids and recognize when scope is missing or pricing does not align.
  • You stay organized, meet bid deadlines, and communicate questions early.
  • You understand that competitive bidding means being both complete and competitive. Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience working for a commercial general contractor.
  • Ability to read and interpret commercial construction plans and identify basic trade scopes.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and strong computer and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable making outbound calls and building relationships with subcontractors.
  • Strong attention to detail, follow-through, communication skills, and ownership of assigned estimates. Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in estimating, project engineering, bid coordination, BuildingConnected, or similar bid solicitation platforms. Long-Term Growth This is a hands-on estimating position with responsibility for assigned projects from start to finish
  • reviewing plans and bid documents, developing scope, soliciting and leveling subcontractor bids, identifying scope gaps, building the estimate, and preparing final pricing for ownership review. As your estimating experience grows, you will take on larger and more complex projects with the opportunity to advance into a Senior Estimator role. Benefits
