Position OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Chief Estimator to lead our estimating team and deliver accurate, competitive cost estimates for complex construction projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in various sectors including healthcare, life sciences, and educational/institutional, and a proven track record estimating ground-up and tenant improvement (TI) projects. This strategic role combines technical estimating, risk analysis, value engineering, and preconstruction leadership to support successful bids and project execution.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the estimating department, setting standards, workflows, and mentoring junior estimators to build a high-performing team.

Prepare, review, and deliver comprehensive, accurate cost estimates for projects across healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, industrial, and commercial portfolios including ground-up and TI work.

Oversee OSHPD- and HCAI-specific estimating and documentation requirements; ensure all estimates and bid packages comply with regulatory standards and submission protocols.

Coordinate multidisciplinary takeoffs and pricing for MEP systems, structural scopes, civil/sitework, and specialty trades; solicit, evaluate, and incorporate subcontractor bids.

Develop and maintain detailed cost databases, unit cost libraries, and historical bid analyses to improve estimate accuracy and consistency.

Perform risk identification, contingency analysis, and value engineering to optimize design, cost, and constructability prior to bid and during preconstruction.

Collaborate closely with business development, project management, design teams, and owners to align estimates with project budgets and commercial objectives.

Lead bid strategy including pricing scenarios, alternatives, and margin analysis; provide executive-level presentations and recommendations on bid/no-bid decisions.

Ensure estimating processes integrate with scheduling, procurement planning, and project delivery methods to support project success.

Implement continuous improvement initiatives for estimating practices, tools, and reporting to drive efficiency and competitive advantage.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil/Mechanical/Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related field, or equivalent experience.10+ years of progressive estimating experience with demonstrated leadership responsibility; prior Chief Estimator or Lead Estimator experience strongly preferred.

Proven experience estimating in Healthcare, Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Institutional, and Commercial projects - the more diverse, the better!

Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., Sage Estimating, ProEst, Hard Dollar), takeoff tools, and Microsoft OfficeStrong analytical skills with experience in cost modeling, risk/contingency analysis, and value engineering.

Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client-facing skills; ability to present complex cost information to executives and owners.

Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple simultaneous bids and deadlines under pressure.
