Job Description
MasTec is seeking a Lead Estimator to drive estimating efforts for complex utility and energy infrastructure projects across power delivery, oil and gas, renewables, and communications. In this role, you will analyze plans and specifications, perform detailed quantity takeoffs, and develop accurate, competitive cost estimates and bids. You will collaborate closely with engineering, project management, and field teams to assess constructability, schedule, and risk, while ensuring alignment with MasTec's strict safety and quality standards. The Lead Estimator will mentor junior estimators, refine estimating tools and databases, and present recommendations to leadership. Responsibilities Lead development of detailed cost estimates and competitive bids for utility and energy infrastructure projects Analyze drawings, specifications, and scope to identify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns for power, renewables, oil and gas, and communications work Review subcontractor and vendor quotes and integrate into final estimates Collaborate with project management, engineering, and field teams to validate constructability and risk Develop and maintain standard estimating tools, databases, and unit costs Present estimates, assumptions, and risks to leadership and support bid strategy decisions Mentor and guide junior estimators, promoting best practices and continuous improvement Ensure compliance with Mas Tec safety, quality, and integrity standards in all estimating activities Required Skills Construction estimating Cost analysis and budgeting Quantity takeoffs Blueprint and specification reading Utility and energy infrastructure knowledge Estimating software (e.g., Heavy Bid, Sage, or similar) Excel and data analysis Risk assessment in construction projects Vendor and subcontractor quote analysis Proposal and bid preparation
