Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our steel fabrication and construction team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for complex steel projects, analyzing project specifications, and supporting our business development efforts through competitive bidding processes. Key Responsibilities Estimation and Analysis Prepare detailed cost estimates for structural steel fabrication and erection projects ranging from small to large projects Analyze architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope and requirements Calculate material quantities using steel detailing software and traditional takeoff methods Develop comprehensive labor hour estimates based on project complexity, site conditions, and crew productivity rates Evaluate equipment needs, crane requirements, and logistics costs for project execution Project Management Support Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams to validate estimate assumptions Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations Maintain and update historical cost databases and productivity metrics Identify potential risks, value engineering opportunities, and constructability issues Support contract negotiations and change order pricing throughout project lifecycle Business Development Actively identify, pursue, and bid on new project opportunities through market research, industry networks, and client outreach efforts Prepare professional proposal packages including technical approaches and project schedules Build and maintain relationships with clients, architects, general contractors, and suppliers Track market conditions, material pricing trends, and competitor activity Provide technical guidance on complex projects Required Qualifications Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field Minimum 3 - 5 years of estimating experience in structural steel fabrication and erection or equivalent experience at a general contractor is preferred Professional Engineer (PE) license or industry certifications (CCC, CPE) are considered a strong asset Technical Skills Proficiency with estimating software (Trimble, PlanSwift, or similar) and steel detailing programs (Tekla, SDS/2) Strong understanding of steel construction methods, welding processes, and industry standards (AISC, AWS) Advanced knowledge of construction contracts, specifications, and industry practices Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for cost modeling Project and Business Experience Experience with design-build, negotiated work, and competitive bidding environments Experience in market research, lead generation, and proactive sales activities Established network of contacts within the construction industry (architects, engineers, general contractors, developers) Core Competencies Exceptional attention to detail and analytical thinking capabilities Strong mathematical and technical skills with ability to interpret complex drawings Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and team interactions Strong networking and relationship-building abilities Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadline requirements Strong organizational skills to manage multiple estimates simultaneously
