Job Description
Description Commercial Roofing Estimator Position Objective Prepare cost estimates for roofing projects, services and submit bids to contractors and private clients. Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. The Estimator will specialize in roofing service performed and specific types of roofing products manufactured. Provide comprehensive support to sales and project teams by effectively communicating and responding to customer needs. Serve as a resource for sales and project teams, by providing information, answering questions and assisting local contacts with questions and concerns. Job Functions Plan, organize, and establish objectives and goals for duties assigned. Estimate job costs and submit proposals for review. Create/ request Show Drawings; Write submittal letters Obtain Product Data Sheets, Samples, etc. Utilize bid log to track own bids and total bids closed Ensure processes are followed from pre-bid until handoff meeting Draft proposals to General Contractors, private clients, and other customers Be accountable for your own goals, decisions, and bids. Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors Additional responsibilities as assigned Field customer requests and questions pre job Cooperate with Project Management, Service, and Office Departments Assist in budget development for operations Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential) High School Diploma or equivalent, college preferred 3-5 years of roofing estimating experience Edge Estimating Software preferred Problem Solving Ability with the ability to manage difficult customers Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet program, including strong analytical abilities Documentation Skills Superior Listening and Communications Skills Ability to speak, read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and policy documents, as well as converse comfortably with associates Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable) Bachelor's degree Previous roofing contracting experience Bilingual Spanish Math proficiency Strong negotiating Skills Ability to read blueprints Knowledge of business and management principles Preferred candidate must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment Key Competencies Superb communication skills Construction and roofing industry experience Sound problem assessment and problem-solving skills Well organized; Adept at planning work and managing time Extreme attention to detail and high level of accuracy Initiative and integrity Adaptability Willingness to learn Teamwork and collaboration Occupational Health and Safety Employees are responsible and accountable for Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace Correct utilization of appropriate personal protective equipment Working Conditions Physical surroundings: Office and field environment with typical office machines and exposure to noise and temperature as well as exposure to typical hazards of jobsite, including ladders, construction materials, etc.
