Job Description

Overview Vertical Earth is seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to join our growing preconstruction team. This position is ideal for an individual with 1.5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, site development, earthwork, utility, or roadway construction. The successful candidate will assist with preparing competitive bids and quantity takeoffs for a variety of projects involving mass grading, underground utilities, erosion control, paving, roadway improvements, site development, and other heavy civil scopes of work . Responsibilities Perform quantity takeoffs from plans and specifications for earthwork, utilities, grading, paving, and related civil scopes Assist with preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and bid proposals Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing Develop pricing for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work Assist with bid tabulations and estimate reviews Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as needed Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information Work closely with project managers, superintendents, and operations teams during bid preparation and project turnover Qualifications Minimum 1.5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil, earthwork, site development, roadway, or utility construction Understanding of construction processes related to:
- Mass grading
- Earthwork
- Underground utilities
- Storm drainage
- Water and sewer installations
- Site development
- Roadway and paving operations Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents Strong mathematical and analytical skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software Experience with AGTEK, HCSS, Planswift, Bluebeam, or similar software is preferred Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field Experience estimating DOT, municipal, commercial sitework, or heavy civil projects Knowledge of production rates and heavy equipment operations Familiarity with Southeast construction markets and subcontractor networks We are a drug free workplace and equal opportunity employer
