Mechanical Construction Estimator - CAD. Design Build, Code South Bend, IN Full-TimeOn-Site$90,000 - $130,000 /yr Posted July 27, 2026 Mechanical Construction Estimator Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Construction Estimator to produce accurate, competitive estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical projects. The estimator will analyze drawings and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, develop cost models, and collaborate with project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors to support successful bids and profitable execution. A strong mechanical and construction background with proficiency in AutoCAD/CAD and modern estimating tools is essential. Key Responsibilities Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare comprehensive cost estimates for mechanical scopes including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection on commercial and industrial projects. Review architectural and mechanical drawings, specifications, and design documents (AutoCAD/CAD) to identify scope, risks, and constructability issues. Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost breakdowns; prepare bid summaries, assumptions, and scopes of work. Source and solicit quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers; evaluate and incorporate pricing into estimates. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and design teams to clarify scope, suggest value engineering alternatives, and ensure estimates align with schedule and constructability. Maintain and update estimating databases, historical cost records, and unit price libraries to improve accuracy and consistency. Prepare and present estimate narratives, bid packages, and supporting documentation for internal review and client proposals. Participate in pre-bid and client meetings, addressing technical questions and providing cost guidance during negotiations. Monitor bid activity, track change orders and allowance pricing, and support post-bid planning for procurement and project kickoff. Qualifications Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 35 years of estimating experience in mechanical construction with a focus on commercial and industrial projects. Proven ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, BIM models, and specifications; proficient with AutoCAD and other CAD tools. Experience with digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam, Sage/Timberline or similar). Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection, plus material and labor unit costing. Excellent analytical, math, and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective verbal and written communication skills; comfortable presenting estimates and negotiating with subcontractors and clients. Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with building codes, safety standards, and construction scheduling; certifications such as OSHA, NICET, or estimating professional credentials are a plus.
