Job Description The Estimator develops accurate total-cost projections for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses. This role reviews project plans, specifications, and drawings to prepare estimates that support competitive bidding, budgeting, and informed project decisions. The accuracy of this work directly affects contract profitability and helps reduce financial risk.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimating and Cost Analysis v Complete quantity takeoffs from project drawings, including material measurements, fixture counts, and component-length calculations. v Develop detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted services. v Review blueprints and specifications to determine project scope, schedule, and resource requirements. v Use estimating software and spreadsheets to calculate costs, assess financial feasibility, and maintain accurate records. Bid Coordination v Solicit, review, and manage subcontractor bids to ensure each proposal is complete and accurate. v Collaborate with clients, engineers, architects, and contractors to clarify estimate details, resolve discrepancies, and revise costs as needed. v Present estimates to management to support project planning, competitive bidding, and budget allocation. v Maintain a current directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors to streamline bid preparation. Cost Tracking and Risk Management v Compare actual project costs with estimates throughout execution to assess accuracy, identify variances, and address potential risks. Skills and Competencies v Strong analytical, mathematical, and numerical skills. v Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Excel. v Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with clients, vendors, and project teams. v Sound judgment in evaluating project risks, pricing, and financial feasibility. v Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform effectively under time-sensitive bid deadlines. Education and Certifications v A bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred; significant relevant industry experience may be considered in place of a degree.
