This is a hands-on senior estimating position, not a traditional estimating management role. You'll personally estimate substantial residential projects while serving as a senior technical resource to a small team of estimators. JLV is a New Orleans-based construction company completing approximately $25 million in annual construction volume , with projects generally starting around $250,000 . Our work includes restoration, rebuilds, renovations, additions, new construction, historic properties, new installations and other major residential projects. We're looking for someone who can work independently, understand residential construction deeply, identify scope and pricing risks, and provide experienced technical guidance to the estimating team.
Compensation & Benefits Base Salary:
$65,000-$75,000 Additional compensation includes: $7,000 annual allowance (Gas, Mileage, Phone Allowance) Performance bonus of up to 10% of base salary Paid vacation PTO Paid training Advancement opportunities What We're Looking For 5+ years of construction estimating experience , primarily in residential construction. Experience with substantial residential renovations, restoration, rebuilds, additions or new construction. Experience with projects around $250K+ preferred . Strong understanding of residential construction, materials, labor and subcontractor pricing. Strong blueprint, plan-reading and scope-analysis skills. Ability to independently develop and review complete estimates. Ability to identify scope gaps, inconsistencies and potential cost risks. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently. Experience mentoring or reviewing other estimators is a plus. What You'll Do Prepare detailed estimates and quantity takeoffs for substantial residential projects. Estimate restoration, rebuilds, renovations, additions, new construction and other residential work. Review plans, specifications and scopes to identify missing or unclear work. Develop labor, material and subcontractor pricing. Review subcontractor proposals for scope, completeness and pricing. Identify potential cost, scope and constructability risks before projects are finalized. Work with the Sales Director during project discovery and preconstruction. Provide preliminary budgets and estimating guidance. Help prioritize estimating assignments within the estimating team. Provide technical guidance and review to other estimators. Participate in estimating-to-Operations project handoffs. Compare estimated costs with actual project performance and help improve future estimates.
