Job Description
JOB FUNCTION
Support the Sales Department by developing accurate and detailed cost estimates and finalizing customer quotes. Responsibilities include researching project specifications, coordinating with internal departments to gather necessary inputs, managing the intake and quote process, preparing comprehensive Excel-based pricing models, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of all estimates and calculations throughout the quoting cycle.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare thorough, accurate, and timely cost estimates for all assigned projects. Utilize Microsoft Excel-based cost models to estimate hardware, material, and labor costs. Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and related documentation to develop comprehensive material and labor quotes. Review contract documents and project requirements to determine scope, constraints, and deliverables. Conduct research and data analysis using internal tools and external sources (e.g., frost lines, prevailing wage data, historical pricing, comparable quotes) to inform estimates. Ensure budget accuracy by aligning quotes with cost account structures and internal pricing standards. Provide quote details and insights to leadership, project management, and accounting teams for decision-making and project planning. Collaborate closely with internal departments—Purchasing, Construction, Engineering, Sales, and Accounting—to obtain current pricing, design specifications, and project data. Offer creative and cost-effective solutions for projects that fall outside standard scopes or processes. Identify and implement continuous improvements to the estimating and quoting process for efficiency, accuracy, and competitiveness. Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, VLOOKUP, IF statements, and data modeling for cost estimation. Strong analytical skills with the ability to calculate discounts, proportions, and percentages with precision. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, even under tight deadlines. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly. Highly organized and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments (e.g., Sales, Engineering, Purchasing). Self-motivated and capable of working independently while also contributing in a team environment. Demonstrated sound judgment, problem-solving abilities, and a practical, common-sense approach. Consistent and dependable attendance and performance. Familiarity with sales processes and a basic understanding of general construction practices is preferred.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Associate degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred. Prior experience in construction, estimating, or a technical industry is highly beneficial and strongly preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will be considered.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent periods of sitting or standing at a workstation. Occasional movement required to access files, attend meetings, or handle materials. Must be able to lift and carry light objects (typically under 30 lbs.) as needed.Job Type:
