Mechanical Estimator Super Heat Inc. is a growing organization that delivers industrial and commercial mechanical solutions. Our projects often involve custom-engineered systems that solve complex, multi-layered challenges for clients in manufacturing, construction, pharmaceuticals, schools, institutions, and private practices. We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Estimator to prepare accurate, competitive cost estimates that support successful bids and project execution. Experience in boiler and hydronic system estimation is considered a significant advantage and will be sought after for this role. Job Summary The Mechanical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for Boiler and Hydronic systems in mechanical projects, including plumbing, piping, pumps, and their controls. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and requirements to determine material, labor, and equipment costs while collaborating with project teams, vendors, and clients to ensure successful project bids and execution.
Key Responsibilities Analyze Project Documents :
Review blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to fully understand project scope and requirements.
Cost Estimation :
Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical systems, including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
Quantity Takeoffs :
Perform precise quantity takeoffs for mechanical components such as piping, ductwork, HVAC units, plumbing fixtures, boilers, and hydronic systems.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination :
Obtain and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
Budget Development :
Assist in developing project budgets and provide cost-saving recommendations without compromising quality or performance.
Risk Assessment :
Identify potential risks or discrepancies in project plans and propose solutions to mitigate cost overruns.
Bid Preparation :
Compile and submit comprehensive bid proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
Collaboration :
Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and scheduling teams to clarify specifications and resolve discrepancies.
Software Utilization :
Use estimating software (including Fast Pipe and Fast Duct) to streamline takeoffs and cost calculations. Utilizing Simpro Suite software to accurately input Customer Proposals and Signed Contracts to turn over.
Documentation :
Maintain accurate records of estimates, permitting, and correspondence for future reference.
Qualifications Education :
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred; relevant industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Experience :
3-5 years of experience in mechanical estimating or a related role within the construction industry.
Skills :
Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping, boilers, chillers, and hydronics). Familiarity with estimating software (Fast Pipe, Fast Duct preferred) and Microsoft Office. Excellent analytical and mathematical skills for accurate cost calculations. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Strong communication and negotiation skills for vendor and client interactions. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
Certifications :
Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or similar credentials are a plus.
Preferred :
Demonstrated experience estimating boiler and hydronic systems is a strong advantage. Work Environment Primarily office-based with occasional site visits to assess project conditions.
