Job Description

Haugland Group, a privately owned Long Island, New York-based civil infrastructure and energy construction company, has an immediate opportunity for a Junior Estimator to join our team. Eastern Utility Services, a subsidiary of Haugland Group, specializes in trenchless construction, including horizontal directional drilling, tunneling, auger boring, and microtunneling. The Junior Trenchless Estimator will support the estimating and preconstruction of trenchless projects by performing quantity takeoffs, reviewing plans and specifications, developing cost estimates, obtaining vendor and subcontractor pricing, and assisting with bid preparation. This position is remote, with travel to project locations, site walks, and meetings as needed. Key Functions Perform labor, equipment, material, and quantity takeoffs from project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents Assist in preparing cost estimates and bid proposals for trenchless construction projects, including HDD, tunneling, auger boring, and microtunneling Assist with evaluating trenchless means and methods, equipment requirements, production rates, and project-specific constructability Obtain and track vendor and subcontractor quotes Prepare RFQs and assist with managing bid schedules and deadlines Organize estimate files, bid folders, and supporting documentation Utilize estimating and project management software, including B2W, HeavyBid, Procore, Excel, and Microsoft Project Review bid documents for discrepancies, missing information, constructability concerns, and potential project risks Collaborate with estimators, project managers, engineering, field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors throughout the estimating process Desired Qualifications 2+ years of estimating, engineering, or construction experience; heavy civil or trenchless experience is a plus Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, geotechnical reports, survey data, and construction documents Basic understanding of heavy civil construction methods, underground utilities, and construction estimating principles Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy while meeting bid deadlines Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively with project teams, vendors, subcontractors, and clients Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or other estimating software preferred, but not required Why Haugland?
