Company Overview:
Tiello has partnered with a highly successful Structural Steel Engineering Firm in the Mountain West on their search for a Structural Steel Estimating Manager for commercial structural steel fabrication and erection projects
Role Summary:
The Senior Estimator will lead the front end of complex structural steel projects, developing reliable budgets and strategic pricing from conceptual and incomplete design information. This individual will play a key role in preconstruction, working directly with owners, general contractors, architects, engineers, and internal teams to evaluate project opportunities, develop estimates, identify risks, and influence design and constructability decisions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong structural steel estimating background with a deep understanding of detailing, fabrication, and erection operations. This individual should be comfortable estimating complex projects from conceptual designs through final drawings and have the ability to provide strategic insight throughout the pursuit and preconstruction process. Experience mentoring estimating professionals and developing estimating processes and best practices is highly desirable.

Lead conceptual, schematic, GMP, design-assist, and final structural steel estimates Develop complete structural steel budgets from conceptual, incomplete, or early-stage project information Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing for structural steel fabrication and erection Establish and document estimating assumptions, exclusions, contingencies, and project risks Develop historical cost benchmarks and maintain accurate pricing databases Analyze project plans, specifications, schedules, and design documents to identify scope, constructability, and pricing considerations Collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and internal project teams throughout the preconstruction process Participate in preconstruction meetings, project pursuits, design-assist efforts, and value engineering discussions Provide structural steel expertise to help influence design decisions and develop cost-effective project solutions Support bid/no-bid decisions and develop pursuit strategies for strategic projects Monitor steel market conditions, material pricing, labor costs, and procurement opportunities Develop proposal narratives, qualifications, clarifications, exclusions, and pricing strategies Support executive leadership with project budgets, forecasts, negotiations, and strategic planning Conduct estimate-to-actual reviews and identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy and profitability Establish and improve estimating standards, procedures, tools, and best practices Mentor and develop junior and mid-level estimating team members Collaborate with engineering, detailing, fabrication, procurement, project management, and field erection teams to validate project assumptions and execution strategies Identify project risks and opportunities before contract award Qualifications /
Requirements:
5+ years of structural steel estimating experience Strong background estimating structural steel fabrication and erection Demonstrated experience developing conceptual and design-assist estimates from incomplete design information Strong understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection, and project execution Experience with complex commercial, industrial, healthcare, semiconductor, data center, or infrastructure projects Proven ability to perform quantity takeoffs, develop budgets, analyze costs, and establish project pricing Experience working directly with general contractors, owners, architects, and engineers during preconstruction Strong understanding of structural steel materials, fabrication processes, erection methods, labor requirements, and project sequencing Experience with value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk analysis Ability to develop and maintain historical cost databases and estimating benchmarks Leadership or mentoring experience within an estimating or preconstruction environment Strong analytical, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office applications Experience with Tekla, Bluebeam, or Trimble Suite preferred Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered The ideal candidate will reside in Pacific, Mountain, or Central time zones within the US Eligibility to work in the U.S.
