We are a growing electrical contracting company specializing in commercial electrical construction. We are looking for an experienced Commercial Electrical Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience estimating commercial electrical projects and a strong understanding of electrical construction, materials, labor, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Responsibilities:
Review electrical drawings, specifications, addenda, and project documents. Perform complete electrical quantity takeoffs. Prepare labor and material estimates for commercial electrical projects. Obtain and review material and equipment quotations from suppliers and vendors. Prepare competitive bids and proposals for General Contractors. Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential change order items. Prepare RFIs and scope clarification questions when needed. Review bid documents and coordinate with vendors and project management. Assist with change order pricing and revisions. Maintain an organized bid log and track upcoming opportunities. Communicate with General Contractors, vendors, suppliers, project managers, and field personnel. Participate in pre-bid meetings and occasional site visits when required. Coordinate with the field team to ensure estimates reflect practical installation methods and actual project conditions.
Qualifications:
3+ years of commercial electrical estimating experience preferred. Strong knowledge of commercial electrical construction. Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, and schedules. Good understanding of NEC requirements and electrical installation practices. Knowledge of electrical materials, equipment, labor, and installation methods. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines. Strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish with office staff, field personnel, vendors, and subcontractors.
Software and Computer Skills:
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office , especially Excel and Outlook. Experience with Bluebeam for reviewing drawings and performing takeoffs. Experience with QuickBooks is preferred. Ability to learn and adapt to company-specific estimating and project management processes.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working for an electrical subcontractor. Previous commercial electrical field experience. Experience estimating commercial projects in the Virginia, Maryland, or Washington, DC market. Experience with change orders and construction proposals. Experience communicating with General Contractors and reviewing subcontractor bid requirements.
