Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Earthwork Estimator to join our dynamic construction team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with earthwork projects, including excavation, grading, site preparation, and material requirements. Your expertise will help ensure project budgets are realistic and competitive while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale commercial construction projects, utilizing your technical skills and industry knowledge to drive successful project outcomes. Duties Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine earthwork scope and requirements. Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to prepare detailed cost estimates. Assess material costs, labor requirements, equipment needs, and subcontractor quotes to develop comprehensive project budgets. Collaborate with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to negotiate pricing, scope adjustments, and contract terms. Manage multiple projects simultaneously by tracking estimates, updating cost models, and ensuring accuracy throughout the bidding process. Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, verify quantities, and gather data for precise estimation. Review construction schedules and plans to identify potential risks or cost drivers related to earthwork activities. Prepare detailed spreadsheets and reports that clearly communicate estimates, assumptions, and contingencies. Assist in managing project costs during execution by monitoring expenses against budgets and implementing cost control measures. Stay current with industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and new estimating techniques to continuously improve accuracy. Skills Proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate or equivalent tools for accurate cost modeling. Strong ability to read and interpret construction blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications. Excellent negotiation skills for working with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors. Experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction industry. Skilled in using Microsoft Office Suite—including Excel spreadsheets—for data analysis and reporting. Deep understanding of construction management software systems for project tracking and documentation. Knowledge of blueprint reading techniques specific to earthwork activities including grading plans and site layouts. Ability to estimate material requirements accurately from blueprints while considering logistics and site constraints. Familiarity with contract review processes related to earthwork scope of work and change orders. Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration. Construction site experience that provides insight into field conditions impacting estimates. Pay:
$30.00 - $45.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 40.0 per week
