Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Insulator for our Shipyard operations to join our dynamic team. The Insulator will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing thermal insulation on various ship components and systems. This role is vital in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and performance of maritime vessels by applying insulation materials that regulate temperature, reduce noise, and prevent corrosion. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in construction and shipyard environments, demonstrating proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and schematics. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialized skills within the maritime construction industry while contributing to the successful completion of complex shipbuilding projects. Duties Install thermal insulation materials on ship hulls, pipes, tanks, and mechanical systems according to blueprints and schematics. Measure surfaces accurately and cut insulation materials using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment. Apply caulking, plastering, and sealing techniques to ensure insulation is secure and effective. Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans related to insulation installation. Perform maintenance and repairs on existing insulation systems to uphold safety standards. Collaborate with carpentry, masonry, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), and metal framing teams to coordinate work efforts. Utilize construction estimating skills to assess material needs and ensure project efficiency. Conduct quality inspections of installed insulation for compliance with specifications. Maintain a clean work environment by properly handling waste materials such as stucco or spray-applied coatings. Support other construction activities such as roofing, framing, or concrete finishing as required. Experience Prior experience working on construction sites with a focus on insulation installation or related trades. Proficiency in using hand tools (e.g., knives, scrapers) and power tools (e.g., drills, saws) safely and effectively. Knowledge of blueprint reading and schematics interpretation specific to shipbuilding or industrial settings. Familiarity with various insulation materials including foam, fiberglass, mineral wool, or specialized maritime insulations. Mechanical knowledge related to HVAC systems or metal fabrication is advantageous. Experience with construction estimating processes for material procurement and project planning. Understanding of safety protocols relevant to shipyard environments and working at heights or confined spaces.
