POSITION SUMMARY
The sandblaster will be responsible for preparing structural steel surfaces by removing rust, scale, paint, and other contaminants using abrasive blasting equipment. This role is critical to ensuring high-quality surface finishes that meet industry and project specifications for coating and painting applications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare structural steel components for painting or coating through abrasive blasting techniques. Operate sandblasting equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company and industry standards. Inspect surfaces before and after blasting to ensure proper profile and cleanliness. Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of blasting equipment and work area. Follow all safety protocols, including the use of PPE and proper handling of blasting media. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be able to perform each essential duty daily. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Ability to operate and maintain blasting equipment. Physical ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work in confined or dusty environments. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in sandblasting or industrial surface preparation, especially with structural steel. Knowledge of industry standards such as SSPC surface preparation specifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Frequent use of hands in handling materials and tools. Ability to lift and carry up to 65 lbs. regularly. Must be able to stand, kneel, bend, twist, and reach for extended periods. Physically fit to work in an industrial environment and tolerate exposure to varying physical conditions. Must be able to work extended hours when necessary.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Industrial warehouse and manufacturing environment with heavy machinery, and overhead cranes. Use of PPE such as gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear is required. Interaction with team members, leads, and supervisors is frequent and necessary. Requires use of protective gear including respirators, blast suits, and safety goggles.
