Part-Time (Flexible Hours) About the Role We're looking to onboard a high-energy, detail-driven Shop Assistant who's ready to jump into the fast-paced world of custom metal fabrication. This role acts as a mission-critical support function to keep our shop running smoothly, safely, and efficiently. If you thrive in a hands-on environment and love the smell of freshly cut steel in the morning and laugh at tons of dad jokes, we'd love to hear from you. Key Responsibilities Metal Preparation & Machining Support Assist with cutting, drilling, grinding, sanding, and deburring metal components Operate basic shop equipment (saws, grinders, sanders, drill presses, etc.) Support fabrication staff by prepping materials to spec and ensuring readiness for welders Shop Organization & Cleanliness Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace (sweeping, trash removal, tool reset, inventory tidying) Keep tools, hardware, and materials properly labeled, stored, and ready for use Assist in receiving, sorting, and staging incoming materials and parts General Fabrication Assistance Help with project setups, measurements, and workpiece handling Support quality-control processes by checking edges, fit-ups, and prepping pieces correctly Jump in wherever needed to keep workflow on track—this is a collaborative shop, and every task matters Qualifications Experience with metal prep (sanding, grinding, deburring) and basic machining tools Comfortable working in a fabrication or construction environment Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship Ability to lift 50+ lbs and safely handle materials Willingness to learn, adapt, and support the team as priorities shift Safety-focused mindset—PPE and proper procedures are non-negotiable What We're Looking For We value individuals who: Take pride in a clean, organized environment Show up consistently and stay proactive Communicate clearly and work well with others Bring a positive attitude—even when the day gets a little chaotic Are excited to grow their skills within a high-performance fabrication team Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly pay (DOE) Flexible part-time schedule Opportunity to grow into additional shop skills and responsibilities Supportive, tight-knit team culture where your contributions actually matter
