Your Role:

Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Detailer Phoenix Welding is seeking a Structural Steel & Miscellaneous Metals Detailer to support our structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and specialty fabrication projects. This is an important new position at Phoenix Welding as we continue developing our in-house detailing and BIM capabilities. The person in this role will help establish detailing standards, workflows, templates, models, and processes while working directly with our project management, fabrication, and field teams. You should have experience interpreting structural and architectural drawings, specifications, and project requirements and translating that information into accurate fabrication and erection drawings. The work will include structural steel as well as miscellaneous metals such as: Stairs and stair towers Handrails and guardrails Ladders Platforms and catwalks Equipment supports Embedded plates and angles Bollards Grating Framing around openings Miscellaneous steel supports Custom fabricated steel assemblies Experience with structural steel detailing software such as Tekla Structures or SDS2 is strongly preferred. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), and other BIM and 3D coordination platforms is also valuable. Many of our projects require coordination with general contractors, engineers, architects, subcontractors, equipment vendors, and other trades. You should be comfortable participating in BIM coordination, identifying conflicts, developing RFIs, and resolving constructability issues before they reach the fabrication shop or field. Phoenix Welding also utilizes 3D scanning and point-cloud technology for existing-condition verification and project coordination. Experience working with point clouds is preferred, although we are willing to train the right candidate. This is not strictly a desk-based detailing position. Occasional site visits, field measurements, 3D scanning, and coordination with our fabrication shop and field crews will be part of the role. Because Phoenix Welding works across a wide range of structural and industrial projects, the successful candidate must be comfortable adapting to changing project conditions, managing multiple priorities, and developing practical solutions to real-world fabrication and installation challenges. What You'll Be Doing Review structural, architectural, mechanical, and related project drawings for information required to detail structural steel and miscellaneous metals. Review project specifications and applicable design criteria. Develop accurate 3D structural steel and miscellaneous metals models using T ekla Structures , SDS2 , or similar detailing software. Produce shop fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, part drawings, erection drawings, and installation details. Detail structural steel members and associated connections. Detail miscellaneous metals including stairs, rails, ladders, platforms, grating, equipment supports, embeds, and custom fabricated assemblies. Coordinate bolted and welded connections with project drawings, specifications, engineering requirements, and fabrication capabilities. Develop field dimensions and connection details for miscellaneous steel that interfaces with concrete, masonry, structural steel, equipment, or other trades. Prepare and manage drawing submittals, revisions, and resubmittals. Develop RFIs and communicate technical questions to project managers, engineers, general contractors, and customers. Participate in BIM and project coordination meetings. Coordinate structural and miscellaneous metals models with architectural, mechanical, piping, electrical, and other trades. Review project models for clashes, conflicts, dimensional issues, and constructability concerns. Generate bills of material, cut lists, material reports, and other fabrication information from project models as required. Coordinate directly with Phoenix Welding's fabrication shop to resolve detailing and fabrication questions. Coordinate with field teams regarding erection, installation, field dimensions, and existing conditions. Work with 3D scans and point-cloud data to verify existing conditions and incorporate field information into project models. Perform occasional field measurements, site verification, and project documentation. Maintain organized project models, drawing files, revisions, standards, templates, and associated detailing documentation. Manage multiple structural and miscellaneous metals projects while meeting project schedules and submittal deadlines. What You Bring Associate or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred, but not required . Equivalent hands-on experience in structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection, or a closely related field will be considered in place of formal education. 3+ years of structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals detailing experience preferred. Experience with Tekla Structures or SDS2 strongly preferred . Experience with AutoCAD is a plus. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), BIM coordination, or similar platforms preferred. Ability to read and interpret structural, architectural, and construction drawings and specifications. Working knowledge of structural steel connections, welding, bolting, and common fabrication practices. Experience detailing stairs, rails, ladders, platforms, embeds, grating, and other miscellaneous metals preferred. Understanding of how structural and miscellaneous steel is fabricated, shipped, erected, and installed in the field. Strong understanding of constructability and the ability to identify potential fabrication or installation conflicts. Familiarity with structural steel industry standards and detailing practices. Experience with 3D scanning and point-cloud software is a plus. Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy. Ability to manage multiple projects, revisions, and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with project managers, estimators, engineers, fabricators, field personnel, general contractors, and customers. Willingness to visit project sites and fabrication facilities when required. Ability to develop practical solutions when actual field conditions differ from the design documents.
