Job Description

Job Title:
Clean Energy Fabrication & Assembly Team Leader Company:
Blue Gas Marine, Inc.
Location:
Apex, NC Position Summary We are looking for a hands-on Fabrication & Assembly Team Leader who is ready to step up and grow into greater leadership responsibility. This working-lead role combines strong welding and fabrication skills with the ability to train, inspect, and guide a team building compressed natural gas (CNG) transport trailers and related equipment. You will work alongside fabricators and assemblers while coordinating daily production, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring every trailer is built safely, accurately, and on schedule. This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently in a junior lead, senior fabricator, or working-supervisor role who has demonstrated leadership potential and wants to take the next step. Essential Responsibilities Lead, train, and mentor a team of fabricators, welders, and assemblers in a production environment. Assign daily work, monitor progress, and keep production on schedule. Perform and oversee MIG (required), TIG, and/or FCAW welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. Train team members on proper welding techniques and inspect completed welds for quality, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with company standards. Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and bills of materials. Fabricate trailer frames, supports, brackets, and structural components using standard shop equipment. Assemble complete trailer systems, including structural frames, CNG tanks, mounting hardware, hose reels, valves, fittings, manifolds, piping, and related equipment. Measure, cut, fit, align, and secure components to precise tolerances. Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues and implement practical solutions. Coordinate material needs with purchasing/inventory to avoid delays. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and enforce OSHA and company safety procedures. Conduct final inspections before units move to testing or delivery. Identify and help implement improvements in workflow, quality, efficiency, and processes.
Qualifications Required:
4-6+ years of hands-on fabrication, welding, or heavy-equipment manufacturing experience (preferably in structural steel, trailers, pressure vessels, industrial equipment, or similar). Demonstrated experience leading, training, or supervising others in a fabrication or assembly environment (formal supervisor title is not required—senior fabricator, working lead, or team lead experience is ideal). Strong proficiency in MIG welding; ability to train others and inspect welds to quality standards. TIG and/or FCAW experience is a plus. Solid ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and work instructions. Experience with common fabrication equipment (saws, presses, grinders, plasma cutters, drill presses, measuring tools). Ability to accurately measure and fabricate structural components within specified tolerances. Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Ability to safely operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other shop equipment (or willingness to become certified). Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred:
Prior experience building trailers, heavy equipment, pressure vessels, industrial skids, or transportation equipment. AWS welding certification. Exposure to CNG, RNG, hydraulic, pneumatic, or piping systems. Lean Manufacturing or continuous-improvement experience. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Who This Role Is For This position is ideal for a skilled welder/fabricator who already has some leadership experience (or clear leadership potential) and is ready to step into a formal working-lead role with room to grow further. We are not looking for pure individual contributors or people with no team-leadership background. If you enjoy mentoring others, taking ownership of quality, and building real products that support cleaner energy, this is a strong fit. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to coach and develop team members while maintaining productivity. Clear communication and organizational skills. Commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and continuous improvement. Comfort making sound decisions under production deadlines. Working Conditions Manufacturing/fabrication shop environment with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and use of power tools. Exposure to welding, noise, dust, and varying temperatures. Proper PPE required. Success in This Role A successful Lead consistently delivers high-quality trailers built to specification, maintains a safe and productive shop, develops the skills of the fabrication team through training and inspection, and contributes to process improvements while meeting deadlines.
