Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Structural Steel Fabricator Shop Foreman to lead our fabrication team in producing high-quality steel components for construction projects. In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily shop operations, coordinate fabrication activities, and ensure all work meets safety standards and project specifications. Your leadership will drive efficiency, uphold quality standards, and foster a safety-first environment. Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the fabrication shop, ensuring timely completion of projects while maintaining quality standards. Lead the interpretation of mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and fabrication shop drawings to guide team members in precise assembly and welding tasks. Oversee welding operations including MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and other welding techniques, ensuring adherence to AWS (American Welding Society) standards and ASME codes. Assign tasks involving metal materials, sheet metal fabrication, and assembly processes, utilizing hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes. Ensure compliance with safety protocols by enforcing proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), conducting safety audits, and promoting a safety-first culture across all operations. Manage shop math calculations for measurements, angles, material estimates, and fabrication tolerances to guarantee precision in all projects. Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to meet project deadlines while maintaining high standards of mechanical fabrication quality. Maintain detailed records of work progress, inspection reports, quality control checks, and safety documentation. Qualifications Proven experience in metal fabrication or structural steel manufacturing within a shop environment. Strong knowledge of blueprint reading, mechanical blueprint interpretation, and technical drawings related to steel structures. Skilled in various welding techniques including MIG, TIG, FCAW, SMAW, with certifications preferred according to AWS standards. Proficient in using measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers for precise fabrication work. Familiarity with construction site experience is highly desirable to understand project requirements beyond the shop floor. Ability to operate power tools, hand tools, and other fabrication machinery safely and efficiently. Mechanical knowledge of ASME codes & standards relevant to steel fabrication is a plus. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to supervise a team effectively while fostering a safety-conscious environment. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in shop math calculations and quality control processes.
