Job Summary:

As a Steel Shop Laborer at Weitsman Recycling, you will play a crucial role in the efficient operation of our steel shop. You will be responsible for supporting various tasks related to the processing, sorting, and handling of scrap metal. Your attention to detail, commitment to safety, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment are essential to the success of our operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Material Handling:

Safely and efficiently handle scrap metal materials using appropriate equipment, such as forklifts, cranes, and hand tools.

Sorting and Segregation:

Sort and segregate different types of scrap metal based on material composition, size, and quality standards.

Quality Control:

Inspect incoming materials for contaminants, such as non-metallic materials or hazardous substances, and ensure compliance with company quality standards.

Processing:

Assist in processing scrap metal materials through shearing, cutting, baling, or other processing methods as required.

Maintenance:

Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment and machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Housekeeping:

Maintain a clean and organized work area, including removing debris, sweeping floors, and disposing of waste materials properly.

Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries in the workplace.

Team Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors to achieve production targets and operational goals.

Documentation:

Accurately record and document relevant information, such as inventory counts, production metrics, and equipment maintenance logs.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred. Ability to operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts and cranes (training provided if necessary). Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. Basic math skills for measurements and calculations. Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly. Willingness to work in a noisy, dirty, and potentially hazardous environment.
