Shape raw steel into a flawless finish at Hamilton Tanks Step into our blast bay and take ownership of the surfaces that define our steel tanks. As an Industrial Abrasive Blasting Technician, you will prepare steel by removing scale, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt using abrasive blasting media to achieve the exact finish our specifications require. You will examine your work to confirm it meets quality standards and report directly to the Shop Supervisor. A day in this role You begin by checking equipment, regulating air and media flow, and verifying safety. Throughout the shift, you load abrasive media, direct the blast nozzle with precision, and switch to scrapers, brushes, or abrasive papers as needed. You keep the area clean, maintain gear, and close the day with a quality check that ensures every surface is coating-ready. Your core responsibilities Clean grease and dirt from steel products prior to blasting Load abrasive media (sand, grit, or steel shot of specified grade) into hoppers Inspect, start, and maintain blasting equipment; regulate pressures for safe, efficient operation Remove rust and coatings by correctly directing blast nozzles and using scrapers, brushes, or abrasive papers when appropriate Examine finished material to ensure it conforms to quality specifications Physical demands Stand more than 8 hours per day Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs Walk on varied surfaces (loose gravel, concrete, asphalt) Turn, twist, and bend at the waist; reach forward and overhead Wear respiratory protection for over 4 hours per day Qualifications and skills High school diploma or equivalent (required) Experience as an abrasive blaster or related field (preferred) Knowledge of field concepts, practices, and procedures, or willingness and ability to train on additional equipment/processes Hands-on skill with manual sand and grit blasting machines, materials, processes, and best practices General proficiency with hand tools (chipping hammer, wire brush) and power tools (grinder, belt sander, palm sander) Consistent commitment to safe work practices Visual acuity with peripheral perception of 70 degrees Compensation and benefits Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and life insurance 401(k) Paid time off (PTO) Pre-employment and compliance Ability to pass background check, drug test, fit for duty test, and Respirator Fit Test (Pulmonary Function Test)
