This role is central to production, responsible for the layout, fitting, and assembly of heavy structural steel, pressure vessels, process piping, and custom fabricated equipment. The position requires proven shop floor experience, the ability to read and interpret complex drawings and weld symbols, and a sustained commitment to quality, safety, and on-time delivery. The weld test is a 3G butt weld on 1/2" carbon steel plate using FCAW Responsibilities Interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to accurately assemble and fabricate metal components. Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and shop math to perform precise measurements and cuts. Fit and assemble flanges, nozzles, manholes, and internal components per ASME and customer requirements Perform precision cuts using torch, plasma, or band saw as required to fit-up. Work form isometric drawings, fabrications drawings, and weld maps to complete assemblies to code. Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols at all times during operations involving heavy machinery or hazardous materials. Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other trades to ensure project specifications are met efficiently. Perform routine inspections of completed work using measuring instruments to verify accuracy and quality. Support continuous improvement initiatives by adhering to best practices in mechanical fabrication and welding techniques. Skills Ability to set up and operate weld equipment Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and mechanical blueprints. Knowledge of layout and assembly, fabricating and installing structural steel or pipe fixtures, and equipment Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, measuring tapes, shop math, and other measuring instruments for precise fabrication. Experience with sheet metal fabrication, pipe threading, plasma cutting, machining, and assembly processes. Mechanical knowledge encompassing fabrication shop experience and mechanical blueprint interpretation. Familiarity with power tools such as grinders, drills, saws, and hand tools required for metalworking tasks. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately for complex assemblies involving metal materials. Knowledge of construction procedures related to structural steelwork or piping systems. Understanding of safety protocols relevant to welding operations and heavy machinery use. Basic math skills necessary for measurements and calculations involved in fabrication tasks. Seeking all levels of knowledgeable fitter welders from entry level up to master fitters for a range of opportunities within a large and growing industrial fabrication company. Performance standards will be supervised throughout working process with a 90% productive labor standard requirement. Rework must not exceed 5% of overall production.
