Field Welder/ Installer FABCO is a full-service steel fabricator seeking a Field Welder/ Installer to join our fast-growing team in Woodburn, Oregon. Our state-of-the-art facility, combined with a highly skilled fabrication team and advanced technology, allows us to deliver a wide range of structural steel projects—from small fabrications to complex assemblies.

BASIC FUNCTIONS

The Field Welder / Installer is responsible for performing welding, installation, and field erection activities on structural and miscellaneous steel projects. This role works independently and as part of a team to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards. The Field Welder / Installer plays a key role in supporting project execution, maintaining equipment, and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and craftsmanship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Welding & Installation Perform structural and miscellaneous steel welding in field conditions. Assist with steel erection, installation, and fit-up as required. Install stairs, railings, platforms, gates, and miscellaneous metal products. Ensure all welding meets project specifications, codes, and quality standards. Perform field modifications, repairs, and adjustments as needed. Read and interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and welding details. Project Execution Coordinate daily work activities with project leadership and other trades. Plan and prioritize assigned tasks to support project schedules and deadlines. Verify field measurements and ensure proper installation alignment. Identify and communicate project issues that may impact quality or schedule. Quality Control Inspect welds and assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications and quality requirements. Conduct field-level quality checks and address nonconforming work. Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail. Equipment & Vehicle Management Maintain welding equipment, tools, and jobsite resources in good working condition. Perform basic troubleshooting and coordinate repairs as needed. Maintain clean and organized work trucks, trailers, and equipment. Safely operate welding machines, power tools, and other field equipment. Safety & Compliance Adhere Follow all company safety standards and OSHA requirements. Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and hazard assessments. Identify unsafe conditions and report concerns immediately. Utilize proper PPE and maintain a safe work environment. Documentation & Communication Maintain accurate records of welding activities and jobsite documentation. Track work completed and communicate progress to project leadership. Communicate clearly and professionally with team members, customers, and contractors. Professional Responsibilities Demonstrate strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail. Follow written and verbal instructions accurately. Maintain professionalism and accountability in all tasks.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum 3+ years of field welding, structural steel installation, or related construction experience. Strong knowledge of welding processes, procedures, and applicable codes. Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and welding details. Experience with rigging, installation, and field coordination. Experience with MIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding processes.

AWS D1.1

certification preferred.

AWS D1.8

certification strongly preferred but not required. Strong problem-solving and organizational skills. Ability to lift 50-100 lbs and work in active field environments. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
