Job Summary R.G. Johnson Company is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Steel & Specialty Services Mine Construction Specialist to perform critical construction, support, and repair projects for customers in the coal, limestone, and other mining industries. As a core member of our Specialty Services division, this position involves working alongside a small, highly skilled crew at a variety of project locations, including various job sites and the company's maintenance facility. Work includes both underground and surface tasks. This specialized role requires high proficiency in structural steel layout, field design, and custom fabrication. The ideal candidate must possess the hands-on expertise to design and fabricate a wide range of structural steel configurations on-site—such as beams, columns, gussets, channels, and handrails—ensuring the structural integrity and safety of mine infrastructure. Work is not limited to steel and fabrication. Structural Steel Fabrication:

Field design, layout, and fabricate various structural steel configurations on-site, including beams, columns, gussets, channels, handrails, and custom structural supports.

Steel Structural Work:

Execute the removal, replacement, and repair of steel beams and structural systems in surface and underground mine settings.

Equipment Operation:

Operate diverse mobile construction equipment safely, including manlifts, excavators, forklifts, skid steers, and other heavy equipment.

Tool & Instrument Proficiency:

Operate specialized construction and repair tools, including welding/cutting equipment, impact drills, saws, transits, pneumatic drills/chippers, and other hand/power tools.

Mine Ground Support & Repair:

Perform critical safety tasks, including mine roof, rib, and highwall bolting, stabilization, and structural repairs.

Material Placement:

Prepare and apply shotcrete, concrete, and grout for structural rehabilitation and mine support projects.

Collaboration & Safety:

Work productively within a close-knit, small specialized crew, maintaining strict compliance with safety regulations, mining standards, and company procedures.

General Site Support:

Perform general construction labor and facility support at regional job sites or the central maintenance facility as needed. Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

Mining Certification:

Must possess a valid West Virginia (WV) or Pennsylvania (PA) Black Hat Mining Certification (Experienced Miner Certification). [

MSHA Training:

Must have completed the 40-Hour MSHA New Miner Training (or possess proof of current training) prior to starting work. [

Welding & Fabrication Experience:

Demonstrated experience in structural steel fabrication and layout. Valid welding certifications are desired.

Industry Experience:

3 to 5 years of successful experience performing similar structural steel, welding, or heavy construction functions in a mine construction or industrial environment is strongly preferred.

Background & Security Clearance:

Must successfully pass an ATF Background Check to ensure eligibility to work in regulated industrial mining sites.

Driver's License:

Must provide proof of a current, valid Driver's License and have reliable transportation to travel to job sites.

Physical & Operational Capability:

Ability to work in both underground and surface environments, wear required MSHA personal protective equipment, and perform physically demanding labor under various environmental conditions. Compensation, Benefits & Perks

Starting Compensation:

Industry top-tier starting wages ranging from $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, based on experience and welding/fabrication certifications.
