The technician will be responsible for completing only the authorized repairs safely, accurately, and efficiently. This position requires more than general structural welding experience. The ideal candidate must be comfortable welding both thin corrugated container panels and heavier structural steel without excessive burn-through, distortion, or damage. Responsibilities Review approved container repair estimates and work orders. Confirm container numbers, repair locations, measurements, and authorized repair methods. Complete MIG welding repairs. Repair or replace container side panels, roof panels, front walls, door panels, rails, crossmembers, brackets, and other steel components. Repair container doors, hinges, locking rods, cams, keepers, handles, and gaskets. Remove and replace damaged container flooring when required. Measure, cut, fit, straighten, weld, grind, seal, prime, and paint repaired areas. Control heat to prevent panel distortion and burn-through. Identify hidden or additional damage and stop work until further approval is received. Inspect completed welds and repairs for quality, alignment, sharp edges, gaps, and defects. Test doors and repaired components for proper operation. Take clear before-and-after photographs of repairs. Record labor hours, parts, materials, and completed repair items. Maintain welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, and work areas. Follow all hot-work, fire-prevention, ventilation, PPE, and equipment-safety procedures. Keep the repair area clean and organized. Required Qualifications At least 3 years of welding, metal fabrication, trailer repair, container repair, truck-body repair, or industrial maintenance experience preferred. Strong MIG welding skills. Ability to weld both thin-gauge steel and heavier structural steel. Ability to perform fillet, lap, butt, and plug welds. Ability to weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Experience using plasma cutters, torches, grinders, saws, drills, and other metalworking tools. Ability to accurately read a tape measure and follow repair dimensions. Ability to identify poor weld quality, including porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, burn-through, cracks, and excessive grinding. Ability to work independently after receiving an approved repair order. Ability to follow instructions and avoid performing unauthorized repairs. Ability to safely work inside, underneath, and around shipping containers. Reliable attendance and transportation. Preferred Qualifications Previous shipping-container or intermodal-equipment repair experience. Semi-trailer, truck-body, chassis, railcar, or cargo-equipment repair experience. Experience working with corrugated steel panels and weathering steel. Experience repairing container doors and locking hardware. Experience replacing container flooring and crossmembers.
