Job Description
Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is seeking a Structural Welder/Fitter to support our welders and fabricators. This position offers high-visibility, growth opportunities, and exciting builds. Custom Fabricators & Repairs, Inc is a well-respected miscellaneous metals & structural steel fabricator who has been in business for over three decades. Quality & service are the core principles of our company and we prioritize excellent relationships with our clients. We are the only AISC certificated structural steel fabricator in Bryan, TX. We provide structural & misc. steel, as well misc. material sales (steel, aluminum, stainless steel), misc. repairs, custom work, and job shop services. We service clients in the commercial retail/residential/office, educational, pharmaceutical, food service, manufacturing industries and more.
Job Summary:
The Structural Welder/Fitter Welds structural framework, components, and materials such as angle iron, WF sections, and other steel shapes and components. Perform such work consistent with the company mission and values and produces a product that meets recognized standards and customer expectations by maintaining Quality and Safety procedures. This is a safety-sensitive position. A safety-sensitive position has been defined as one where the employee's responsibilities impact the health and safety of themselves, coworkers, and/or the public (in this case the end-user of our product). All production and production support positions fall into this category.RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned- Calibrate welding tools and equipment according to the parameters listed in the welding procedure specification (WPS).
- Analyze blueprints and structural drawings to layout the framework of a structure.
- Secure and fasten structural components using clamps, braces, jacks, and bolt straps.
- Carry out post-welding treatment of structures by cleaning, buffing, and polishing finished workpieces.
- Inspect and evaluate welds to ensure they are free of defect and conform to set specifications.
- Employ appropriate welding methods in completing structural fabrication. Utilize manual and mechanical processes to weld in various positions.
- Carry out fillet, tack, and full penetration welding on steel foundations and structural joints.
- Apply welding processes such as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), etc.
- Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects.
- Set equipment to weld in vertical, horizontal, flat, or overhead positions.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screening test.
MUST BE ABLE TO READ A TAPE MEASURE
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumferences, and volume, and to apply concepts of basic mathematics WITHOUT a calculator.
- Ability to pass a weld and fit test.
- Considerable experience (5-7 years) in welding/fabrication using MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW, Stud welding, oxygen/acetylene and brazing processes. Welder/Fabricator III
- Considerable experience (3-5 years) in welding/fabrication using MIG, TIG, SMAW, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW, Stud welding, oxygen/acetylene and brazing processes. Welder/Fabricator II
- Experience (1-3 years) in welding/fabrication using MIG, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW, Stud welding, oxygen/acetylene. Welder/Fabricator I
- Experience (6 months
- 1 year) in welding/fabrication using MIG, FCAW, SMAW, GMAW, SAW, Stud welding, oxygen/acetylene.
Key Competencies:
- Able to work 5 days a week, some overtime required.
- Superior level welding skills
- Weld materials to conform to specified dimensions, standards, and Weld Procedure Specifications.
- Ability to Read and interpret structural shop drawings and blueprints with emphasis on welding details.
MUST BE ABLE TO READ A TAPE MEASURE.
- Comply with Health and Safety, Environmental and Custom Fabricators & Repairs manufacturing policies, and procedures.
- Operate cutting and heating torches.
- Must be able to effectively make necessary corrections per pertinent codes and specifications, with no supervision.
- Produce finished product that meets recognized standards, codes, and customer expectations by maintaining quality procedures and practices.
- Maintains positive work atmosphere by functioning and communicating in an effective manner with co-workers, clients, quality control, and supervisors.
- Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of area.
- Works in a safe and conscientious manner.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor including but not limited to, cleaning, trash scrap removal, and other production related tasks.
- Complete understanding of pre-heat functions
- Ability to look at weld symbols and properly prep joints per weld procedure standards.
- Capability to operate stud equipment without assistance in a safe, effective, and proper manner.
