Job Overview We are seeking experienced 1st Class Shipfitters to support structural repair and fabrication work aboard U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels. Candidates must be experienced shipfitters capable of working independently from drawings, sketches, and specifications in an active shipyard environment. This is a 1st Class position . Candidates are expected to have solid shipboard experience and be able to perform layout, fitting, fabrication, removal, and installation of structural components with minimal supervision.

ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet all three requirements below to be considered: Must have a current or ability to obtain/valid DBIDS credential and be able to maintain base/shipyard access Must have a valid driver's license Must have reliable transportation to and from the jobsite Job Responsibilities Perform layout, fabrication, fitting, removal, and installation of shipboard structural components. Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, sketches, and work specifications. Fit structural steel, bulkheads, decks, foundations, stiffeners, brackets, frames, and other shipboard components. Accurately measure, lay out, cut, bevel, grind, and prepare material for installation and welding. Use hand tools, power tools, come-alongs, chain falls, grinders, torches, and other shipfitting equipment. Perform tack welding as required and permitted. Verify fit-up, alignment, dimensions, and tolerances prior to final welding. Perform structural removals while protecting surrounding ship systems and equipment. Work safely in confined spaces, tanks, machinery spaces, and other shipboard environments. Follow shipyard safety requirements, PPE requirements, WAF/Tag-Out boundaries, and job-specific procedures. Coordinate with welders, supervisors, and other trades to complete work safely and on schedule. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Qualifications Previous experience as a 1st Class Shipfitter in ship repair, shipbuilding, or heavy marine fabrication. Strong knowledge of structural fitting and fabrication. Ability to read and work from shipboard structural drawings and blueprints. Ability to perform layout and measurements accurately. Experience working with carbon steel and other marine structural materials. Must be comfortable working aboard vessels, including confined spaces, ladders, staging, and tight-access areas. Must be able to work independently and produce 1st Class quality work. Must be dependable and able to report to work on time. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry materials, tools, and equipment associated with shipfitting work. Ability to climb ladders and staging and work in confined or restricted spaces. Ability to bend, kneel, crawl, stand, and work in physically demanding shipboard conditions. Ability to wear required PPE for the duration of the shift. Work Schedule Work schedules may vary based on project requirements. Candidates should be available for overtime and weekends when required to support vessel schedules and project deadlines.
