JOB OVERVIEW
The field supervisor/equipment operator is a dual role supervisory position that plans, coordinates, and directly oversees daily onsite timber harvesting operations. They manage field crews, enforce strict environmental/safety regulations, schedule heavy equipment and haul trucks, and ensure production meets mill requirements and environmental standards. Additionally, the field supervisor also operates specialized heavy machinery; log loaders, skidders, processors, front loaders, chippers, etc. required during logging operations to pull felled trees to the landing area, sort and stack logs, feed chippers, and load processed timber products for transportation while ensuring optimized yields.
Minimum Qualifications :
3-5 years' supervisory experience in complex logging operations. 5+ years' operating heavy forest equipment (skidders, processors, forwarders, loaders, chippers, etc.) Professional logging management certificate (SFI QLP, etc.) preferred. Knowledge of and the ability to identify tree species. Understanding of forestry practices, timber measurements, and environmental guidelines. Strong spatial awareness and decision-making for complex operations. Demonstrated ability on safe equipment operation and service performance Read deeds and identify property boundaries. Must be a US citizen. Valid driver's license.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Daily planning: mapping out cutting sequences, daily work schedules, and timber grading. Manage daily logging operations and onsite logging crews by assigning day-to-day tasks, goals, training, and general maintenance. Work closely with general manager/operations manager to understand and communicate all job details. Operate specialized heavy forest equipment like loaders, processors, forwarders, skidders, etc. Transport cut logs to jobsite pre-skid locations and/or landings. Sort and stack round wood for transportation. Loading logs onto logging trucks as needed. Collaborate with the logging teams to optimize load management and transportation efficiency Monitor environmental conditions and adjust operations as necessary to minimize impact. Maintain accurate logs of operational activities and report any equipment issues. Perform multiple inspections throughout day on equipment to check and maintain proper fluid levels, performance of the equipment, etc. Report equipment needs and hazards to management. Survey, evaluate and take measures to ensure work area is safe from any dangers (power lines, utilities, co-workers, etc.) Inspect all attachments to the machinery to ensure that they are operational and take the appropriate steps to correct. Follow work order instructions from general manager and senior leadership team. Ensure that job sites are left in safe condition. Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with employees and maintain good communication. Provide timely feedback on employee performance. Report all disciplinary issues to HR. Ensure all safety rules and standard policies are adhered to and reviewed. Perform other duties as assigned.
