Overview The Derrick Hand plays a crucial role in the oil and gas industry, primarily responsible for assisting in the drilling operations on an oil rig. This position requires a strong understanding of heavy equipment operation, safety protocols, and teamwork to ensure efficient and safe drilling processes. The Derrick Hand works closely with the drilling crew to maintain equipment, manage materials, and support the overall operation of the rig. Responsibilities Operate and maintain various types of heavy equipment including cranes and forklifts. Assist in the assembly and disassembly of workiver rigs. Manage and transport materials to and from the rig site, ensuring proper handling and storage. Monitor workover operations, Follow OSHA regulations and safety standards at all times to promote a safe working environment. Perform routine inspections on equipment and report any issues or necessary repairs. Collaborate with team members to dig trenches or pits as required for drilling operations. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to prevent accidents. Skills Proficient in heavy equipment operation, including cranes and forklifts. Knowledge of oil gas industry practices, particularly related to oil rig operations. Familiarity with OSHA safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. Experience with workover rig drilling techniques is advantageous. Strong ability to work as part of a team in high-pressure environments. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail during operations. Ability to lift heavy materials and perform physically demanding tasks.
