POSITION GOAL
To provide a high level of expertise of heavy equipment operation and functions in order to maximize a safe environment for students and employees of Volusia County Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
  • Ensure accurate receipt and documentation 2.
  • Assure the safety of all students. 3.
  • Represent Volusia County Schools (VCS) and the Department with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor. 4.
  • Assist in the daily loading of vehicles and equipment. 5.
  • Assist in the safe and proper loading of delivery vehicles. 6.
  • Operate motor vehicle equipment used to collect generated waste from facilities 7.
  • Operate other Class B vehicles related to waste removal, recycling, in a safe manner. 8.
  • Perform daily vehicle and equipment inspections following all DOT, Federal, State, and local requirements 9.
  • Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned. 10.
  • Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) with a positive and professional service-oriented demeanor to promote cooperation with all stakeholders. 11.
  • Complete on-site operational testing of chain saw, asphalt, concrete, and chain link fence repair. 12.
  • Responsible for the operation of heavy-duty equipment such as forklift, front end loader, backhoe, bucket truck, dump truck and various types of tractors with related equipment as assigned. 13.
  • Assist or conduct repairs of catch basins and storm water run-offs. 14.
  • Responsible for trimming, cutting, and mowing trees for assigned mowing operations. 15.
  • Responsible for the patchwork of driveways, parking lots and sidewalks as needed. 16.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate reports and all related lists/forms for each job and submit to supervisory personnel as required. 17.
  • Assist in the assessment, planning and implementation of preventive maintenance and security procedures. 18.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing as assigned. 19.
  • Report any damage/dangerous or hazardous situations related to work orders, equipment, or vehicles to supervisor. 20.
  • Maintain a clean orderly work environment which includes equipment and service vehicles. 21.
  • Abide by and support safety rules/standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements. 22.
  • Wear provided designated departmental uniforms. 23.
  • Provide personal tools as required, to perform assigned work 24.
  • Use computerized system in maintaining logistical control of inventory, as required. 25.
  • Willing to attend cross training sessions, as well as cross-train, for other trades within the Division. 26.

  • Required Qualifications/Certifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent preferred Minimum of three (3) years' experience in operations of equipment and various types of tractors with related equipment Must be able to attend and complete various on-the-job training sessions Currently hold a Temporary Commercial Driver License Permit or higher, (Class "B with air brake endorsement") and pass road testing within ninety-day (90) probation period Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505 REQUIRED SKILLS Ability to travel to various work locations by being familiar with Volusia County School District area or ability to read road maps Ability to work productively with little or no supervision Ability to perform assigned tasks competently (fast and accurately) Ability to work as part of a team Ability to work in a noisy, high heat/humidity and/or cold environment Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in handling of sensitive and/or confidential information Ability to perform strenuous and/or tedious labor Ability to work from a ladder, high lift, bucket truck and scaffold General office skills, including data entry, work order system, warehousing and file system Good organizational skills Knowledge of current technology, systems, and applications as it pertains to the related field Ability to determine the materials, tools and time needed to complete an assignment Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with district staff, the public and business community Ability to read, understand and use manifests, trip logs, and other shipping/receiving documents of Volusia County Schools (VCS) and various vendors Ability to participate in all types of emergency/disaster clean-up Desire to learn additional tasks through supervised job training Ability to operate all vehicles required for performing tasks in accordance with operational procedures Ability to read, comprehend and use written instructions, directions regarding precautions, chemicals, maintenance and recommended use of job-related equipment and tools Ability to use and maintain all types of specialty and job-related equipment and tools
