This position will support underground utility and sitework projects throughout the Charlotte area and surrounding markets. The ideal candidate has previous experience working in water, sewer, storm drainage, grading, and underground utility construction and is comfortable safely operating heavy equipment in active construction environments. Position Responsibilities Safely operate heavy equipment used for underground utility and sitework construction, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, backhoes, dozers, and other equipment as assigned . Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, loading, and material placement. Assist with the installation and repair of water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems . Excavate around existing utilities while following required safety procedures. Perform grading and site preparation according to project plans and specifications. Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns. Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, Laborers, and other crew members to maintain production and project schedules. Follow OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and jobsite-specific procedures. Maintain a clean and safe work area and properly care for company equipment. Assist with general utility construction activities when equipment operation is not required. Perform other field duties as assigned based on project needs. Qualifications Previous heavy equipment operating experience required. Previous underground utility construction experience strongly preferred , particularly water, sewer, storm drainage, and grading. Experience operating excavators and other equipment around underground utilities preferred. Ability to understand basic grades, elevations, and construction plans is preferred. Knowledge of trenching, excavation, backfilling, and utility installation practices. Strong awareness of jobsite and equipment safety. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding construction work as needed. Dependable transportation and ability to report to various project locations. Valid driver's license preferred. CDL is a plus but not required. Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a crew.
