Heavy Equipment Hauler Pay Range:
$23-$25 per hour Local Work | Home Every Night | Full-Time General Description We are looking for an experienced Lowboy Operator / Heavy Equipment Hauler to join our construction team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting construction equipment between jobsites, our yard, and other company locations. This is a local, home-every-night position with a consistent role supporting our grading and utility construction operations. The ideal candidate takes pride in operating their truck, knows how to properly load and secure heavy equipment, and understands that getting the equipment to the jobsite safely and on time is an important part of keeping a project moving. Equipment hauled may include trackhoes, dozers, skid steers, mini excavators, loaders, rollers, pipe and other construction equipment and materials. Key Responsibilities Safely operate a Class A CDL truck and lowboy/trailer combinations to transport construction equipment to and from jobsites. Safely load, position, secure, transport, and unload equipment of various sizes and weights. Properly chain, bind, block, and secure loads in accordance with DOT and FMCSA requirements. Determine proper equipment placement and load distribution to ensure safe and legal transportation. Inspect equipment and trailers prior to loading and transportation. Complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and DVIRs. Perform routine inspections of the truck and trailer, including checking fluid levels, tires, lights, brakes, and identifying leaks or damage. Communicate with project managers, foremen, equipment operators, and supervisors regarding equipment moves and jobsite access. Coordinate equipment moves to help keep construction crews productive and minimize downtime. Safely navigate construction sites, including tight jobsite entrances, uneven terrain, active work areas, and congested conditions. Ensure loads comply with applicable weight, height, width, length, and permitting requirements. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with all applicable USDOT, FMCSA, and company safety requirements . Notify the appropriate supervisor of mechanical issues, unsafe conditions, or equipment damage. Assist with other hauling or transportation needs as required, within the limits of the driver's license and endorsements. Maintain a clean and professional truck and trailer and represent the company professionally when interacting with customers, subcontractors, and other contractors. Qualifications & Experience Valid Class A CDL required. 3-5 years of experience hauling heavy construction equipment required. Demonstrated experience operating a lowboy or heavy equipment transport trailer . Strong knowledge of proper load securement, chaining, binding, and safe loading/unloading practices . Experience transporting a variety of construction equipment such as: Trackhoes / excavators Dozers Skid steers Mini excavators Wheel loaders Rollers Other heavy construction equipment Knowledge of DOT weight and load requirements. Familiarity with construction jobsites and heavy equipment operations. Experience with air brakes and manual/standard transmissions preferred. Must maintain a driving record that meets company and MVR requirements. Must maintain a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate as required. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, foremen, and equipment operators. Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work independently. Physical Requirements Ability to safely climb on and off trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, and work on uneven surfaces. Ability to manually handle chains, binders, ramps, and other load securement equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and handle heavier materials with assistance. Ability to work safely around operating heavy equipment and active construction operations. Ability to maintain awareness of changing conditions and multiple activities on an active construction site. Work Environment Local construction work home every night. Work is primarily outdoors and performed in a variety of weather conditions. Regular exposure to construction equipment, trucks, dust, dirt, noise, grease, and diesel fuel.
