Job Description

The Town of Pittsfield Public Works Department is seeking a qualified, dependable, and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a full-time Equipment Operator. The successful candidate will perform a variety of skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal roads, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure. Duties include, but are not limited to: Safe operation of heavy equipment including loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and trucks equipped with plows and wings. Snow and ice removal operations. Roadway maintenance and repair. Drainage and culvert maintenance. General highway and public works construction and maintenance. Equipment inspection, routine maintenance, and cleaning. Other duties as assigned to support Public Works operations. Minimum Qualifications Experience operating heavy equipment in a municipal or comparable public works environment. Demonstrated experience with municipal snow plowing and winter maintenance operations. Valid New Hampshire Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NH DOT Medical Certificate. Successful completion of a driver's record review and criminal background check. Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with applicable regulations. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physically demanding work. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and emergency call-ins, particularly during winter storms and other weather-related events. Compensation & Benefits $23.10-$33.60 per hour, based on qualifications, experience, and placement within the Town's established pay scale. Most candidates are hired at a step that reflects their relevant experience and certifications. Four-day summer work schedule (four 10-hour days). Competitive benefits package. Participation in the New Hampshire Retirement System. Overtime opportunities during winter operations and emergency response.
